this summer, i'm dedicating myself to getting out of my 'cutsie' cartoony style and into something a little more solid. here is the third sketch i've done in over two years:

I'd BUY that sketch. Really, I would...

Not that it would be for sale, I know.

whoa, really? i'm always suprised to hear it although i've had 3 art shows in SF and practically sold out at each one. every medium is different for me--my oil paintings look nothing like my sketches.

I'd love to see more of your work. I've purchased art before (though I'm very modest in terms of what I can offer):

The last one is my favorite.

I know the feeling of trying to make that push for change within your own work. Since I took a break from school, it has been really hard to get up the nerve to pick up a paint brush. All the time, knowing that you'll only get better the more you do it. And I blame Art Education for fostering that dependence in me. The need for a regiment, critique and praise.

Your work is expressive and dark and I like that. What media do you use and which are you fondest of?

oh yes, those who really need critique and approval seem to be the ones least receptive of it. however, you do get to a point where it becomes their opinion rather than critique, and that's when you know you've made it into your own.

thanks for the compliment! i was afraid she looked blank!! i do: photography (all my pictures are self-portraits), intaglio, wood block etchings, sculpture, watercolor
but my favorites are:
oil painting and sketching.
have you ever thought of posting your work up? this is the first time i've done it :).

I have to scan stuff at school and since I haven't been in school I haven't had access. I think I may when I get back to school. I should since I have the opportunity to archive it here. Do you have any tips on photographing oil paintings?

not really, other than it comes out best if you take it outside in natural sunlight because if you use the flash, it flattens the image out and sometimes reflects the flash.
