Hail to the bus driver

To all the bus drivers of all the buses I've been on in the past 3 or 4 years: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for being the only person in Western Australia who doesn't say "Thanks" when he gets off the bus. Still, my paranoia when it comes to you all isn't entirely my fault ( Read more... )

In Canada, if you were thanking the driver, it meant that you were exiting the bus by the wrong door, the front door is for people getting on, and Vancouver buses always have rear doors. I knew a couple people who would shout up a 'thanks' from the back, but to me, the rudeness of yelling cancelled out the politeness of thanking.

In England, old people and me thank the driver, and the drivers almost never acknoledge anyone in any way. But I keep saying it, becuase I am ruthlessly polite even if other people aren't. But it does kinda make me mad.
