Is it true that most men don't like cats? I don't just like my cats, I love them to the point where I constantly pat, stroke and squeeze them. I make it my mission each day to make them two little purring balls of content. They're my babies. I never grow tired of them

How selective is he with his food? Because with our cats the strategy of giving him food he doesn't particularly like works quite well - then he'll only eat as much as he needs and not excessively.

I think I have my own psychological problem when I do that. I hate to see either of my cats sniff at the bowl and walk away, only for me to have to throw the contents out later. Booby will eat anything, but yeah, he'll eat a lot less of something he doesn't like. Crunchy however, a small eater to begin with, will not touch anything he doesn't like, even if he's hungry.

They look at me as if to say, "OK, very funny ha ha ha. Now where's the tuna and chicken?"

Your method is under consideration if Booby's current diet (and demands for more food) makes me buckle. Although, I have to admit I used to give him heaps of treats too - which has stopped until he's a more normal weight.
