Thanks for this post. I know exactly what you mean - as a skeptic and pessimist, I had a mighty struggle with myself in deciding to vote for Obama since I couldn't quite believe that he will actually be effective. Certainly, I still have my doubts about how much is brilliant rhetoric and how much is legitimate policy and the capability to make a difference. Still, I made the choice to not be a skeptic for once, since it isn't a productive position. He may or may not have "Jimmy Carter syndrome" as a president, but as a society, I think we have to let him try ( ... )

remember though, Obama also has the "educated" vote. That's gotta be hard on Clinton.

I agree about feeling pigeonholed...it is pretty frustrating. Although to be honest, my experience has been the exact opposite. Maybe it's because Penn State students as a whole are incredibly apathetic about politics, but almost everyone I've volunteered with has been over 30. There have also been a surprising number of senior citizens and lots of aging baby boomers.
