Ooops. It's been a while since I've posted. I'm still here, and maybe even doing somewhat better, but I can't relax about it yet. It's too easy to backslide, as I've proven tonight. Instead of going to a music jam, here I am at the office, having spent 2.5 hours webwandering. Sigh. Not really what I wanted to do tonight -- I either wanted to go ( Read more... )

Do you know, I meant to recommend Constructive Living to you a while back, but could not for the life of me remember the title, or the author's name.

Glad to be reminded, and that you already knew of it/him.

In a similar vein, I also appreciated David Burns' Feeling Good.

I am inspired by your knitting. I need to relearn that, or crochet, and get busy.

I have 2 of Burns' books, but I find it hard to get past his writing style, which I find annoying and patronizing. There's good content in there, tho'. I hate when that happens -- my information is being held hostage. Grump.

I warn you, knitting is another bookstore habit: not only are knitting books interesting, but yarn, needles, and patterns have their own particular siren songs.

(Got my fingers in my ears, but I still want 16" no.11 circular needles...)

I found I had to skim Burns' books looking for the aha! moments, as I had much the same reaction to him. But the content was worth it, I thought.

Maybe it's just as well I won't get to it right away...

Good to hear that you've a handle on at least some of the work issues. Thanks for posting the three recommendations from David Reynolds -- they sound like good ideas.

I suspect your cooking habit fits in with "make something for someone else with your own hands," as does your mom's quilting. There's a reason all of these hand-crafts stay around (other than necessity, that is).

I envy you your climate -- the driveway was icy this AM, and I wondered again what I'm doing in the Northeast when Northern CA is neither humid nor frozen. Long learning curve.
