I was always under the impression that
Hispanic Cultures mainly embraced Catholicism, but I was definately incorrect.
scarletserpent and I live in a predominantly Hispanic area and during the day I tend to get numerous people knocking on my door asking me if I know Jesus, etc. As well, there are a few Hispanic churches near our residence. Believe it or not, many of our neighbors, etc are Pentacostal. Is that just a local Georgia thing then or possibly a growth of Pentacostal follwing in the Hispanic communities?
On an aside though, for those of you that do not have much of an interaction with the Hispanic culture, I am constantly amazed at how hard working the peoples are. Many of my peers are contactors and they prefer to hire Hispanic Males for labor over the typical white, redneck, southern baptist laborer. The first thing the typical laborer wants is union backing, etc and you can barely get a hard 8 hour day of work from them. But the typical Hispanic worked will always arrive on the job site early (after riding an hour in the back of a pickup truck with no jacket and in the rain or freezing cold) and start work even before the contractor gets there. They will take a very short lunch break so they can get back to work and at closing time they wan't to continue working.
Once they get home, their wife will make food (tamale, etc) and they will go door to door carrying a big pot of the food to sell. They are involved in some sort of work until 9ish or so. Their work week ends when the sun goes down on Sat and they will buy alot of beer and do some drinking. One has to respect this type of work ethic in a person. It appears that many American men have lost that work ethic, but those of Hispanic cultures most definately still have it. They come to the US and work hard and become successful. Many own their own business, be it whatever. It impresses me constantly.
There is a young lady from Mexico that works at a local laundry-mat near us. She works 6 days a week from open to close and picks up her daughter from school and brings her to work. I'd say she is about 5 or 6. Such a cute and charming little girl. As her daughter never gets to experience children's movies, etc I asked her if I might take her daughter, along with my children, to see a kids movie the next time I go. The little girl was just soooo happy.
