Local fauna

I was heading down the driveway this morning when something large flapped its way off the lawn and into one of our big maple trees. After I got my heart slowed back down (I mean this thing was RIGHT NEXT TO THE CAR when it took off), I managed to get a decent look at it as it sat in the tree, surveying its domain. How cool! I love raptors; we're loaded with them around here. I feel sorry for the little birdies, though, and I did worry about our kitties when they were very small.

Yeah, it's not too common for us to see one that isn't a red-tail sitting on a fence post around here, so this was exciting!

This was definitely closer than I'd ever gotten to see one here at home. My dad and I saw an osprey haul a fish up to its nest when we were golfing in North Carolina a couple of months ago -- I don't think anything's going to top that for a while. *grin*
