Ladies and Gentlebeings, We Have a Winner!

It's not that I thought I couldn't do it...less than 1700 words a day isn't actually that bad. But I wasn't sure if I would do it, if that makes sense. And there were a couple of days when life happened and I was over 10,000 words behind schedule going into the last week. (I made it all up over the holiday weekend, including 7800 words on Sunday ( Read more... )

Congratulations! Yay!

I have done similar things--writing 8000 or or so words in a day before. It *can* be fun. :-) I wrote my first year's novel almost entirely in Word Wars in the mIRC chat that NaNo used to have on its site.

I think it would have been more fun if I could have taken the month off from work. *g* Okay, *everything* would be more fun if I could take the month off from work!

It's been kind of a sucky fall- my only really good commute route is under construction, so my commute time has doubled most days. And work has been busy- I've had to do a fair amount of overtime to keep up. So adding on NaNo was a stretch. I really couldn't work more than a couple of hours most evenings, and some of the weekend days we were traveling or had company (which is how I fell behind). I really couldn't do any of the social stuff, I just had to stay focused on the writing. But hey, it worked! And now I feel like working on other writing projects is a lot more do-able.

:-) That's sort of how I felt in my first year, especially when I won. I had never written anything that long that fast. Suddenly it seemed possible, and I realized that even if I only dedicated an hour or even less per day to writing, I could still accomplish something if I kept at it.

I think lyraeinne learned that this year, too. She wrote around 35,000 words, so she didn't win, but it's the longest story she's ever written.

*nods* Exactly! Even though I've written longer stuff, I've never done it this fast. And since getting the first draft complete is where I tend to be stuck, this is rather useful.
