Having just finished my 100th book of the year, it occurred to me that it's been a while since I did a book post (okay...any post at all!) And also I have been reading some fun new fiction, and thought I'd share some recs

I enjoyed Fuzzy Nation...it has kind of that classic SF feel. Enjoyable, but not extraordinarily distinguished. I had never read Little Fuzzy, but I probably will, now that I've read Scalzi's take. I've read quite a bit of Scalzi's fiction, and my two favorites to date are The Android's Dream and Redshirts. I liked Old Man's War and the sequels well enough, but I thought he failed to follow through on all the implications of the setup.
Yes...Redshirts could quite easily have been so over the top that it failed to work...but it never quite does that. It walks a fine balance between telling a story and sly satire, and I thought it succeeded brilliantly.
I was actualy contemplating emailing a couple of weeks to check you hadn't fallen off the end of the Earth!
Redshirts - I think I have it on a To Buy / Acquire list. It might now move further up.
Kathy Reichs - I started reading her first Brennan book, and it was ok, but I obviously got distracted, and haven't been back to it.
Temeraire - I've still got 5 & 6 to read. I didn't start reading til 1 - 4 were out. Part of me is reluctant to read 5 & 6 for fear of the cliffhangers I may encounter. (IIRC - 2 of the first 4 had what I'd call OMG!Cliffhangers, and the other two were ones where I could have waited (tho not perhaps patiently!) for the next book!
Chosen - I have it somewhere, but haven't read it. I also haven't seen the last two seasons yet.
Not quite fallen off the ends of the earth, but certainly off this part of the internet for a while.
I've been reading a lot of Kathy Reichs, not so much because I like them but because it's the sort of book I'm in the mood to read. What I really want to read is a new Aaron Elkins, but there aren't any I haven't already read. I find her books often have interesting background, but I'm kind of eh about the character. And the part where someone *always* tries to kill her, and *always* fails out of incompetence and then Brennan does something *really stupid* that puts herself in danger to resolve the plot... I wouldn't particularly recommend them

What did you think of Fuzzy Nation? I adored Little Fuzzy when I was younger but haven't reread it in many years.
I'm glad some of the work crazy is over, at least. Yes, duck and run!
