Okay, THAT was interesting

Had a dream last night. It was sort of a mix of the Grudge, the Ring (I've never watched it, but I've seen bits and been told the story) and various details that meshed it contextually with my work and life. I was the central character, or so I would surmise. We were in some kind of large old house, that was somehow also the place where I work ( Read more... )

gees, Doug, sounds like a pretty awful nightmare. For a while I started trying to lucid dream when I realized I was having a nightmare. Like while I was dating Moshe, who taught me how to lucid dream, whenever I was having what seemed like a scary dream, I would change it into something fun, like flying, or floating down a pleasant stream on my back. Or that moshe would be there and hug me or something. It didn't quite work to try to make Moshe hug me when the scary dream was about him! If I tried that, he would just attack me. Obviously, I wasn't in entire control when I was lucid dreaming. And I can only ever get it to work when I'm having a nightmare, because that's the only time I consciously know I'm dreaming. I suggest you imagine yourself flying next time you have a nightmare.

So how do you do that exactly? Just...realize you're dreaming and start changing details to your liking? Is there a trick to it?

Yeah, that's the gist of it. Just realizing you're dreaming is part of lucid dreaming. If you can't control the dream from there, you're only half-lucid or something. here are some tricks: to fly, try jumping in the air. if you want to see someone, imagine them walking through the door, because materializing isn't easy. If you're being attacked or chased, try to change the pursuer into someone you like. It's pretty fun! I think I did manage to lucid dream once without having had a nightmare. I was a super-heroine, and I could fly, and I was in a romantic relationship with the incredible hulk- or some other green guy. LOL.

What I generally do to take control of my dreams is transition them into other dreams that I strongly remember. Which is why most of my nightmares have a common ending of me either dying and then rising from my own ashes/corpse or declining to die by tearing the souls from my enemies and ascending to the heavens in a chariot of fire.

Of course, to do that, you need to have other powerful dreams that you can use as common stock. Got any good dream segments that you could use? I wouldn't suggest using a sex dream for that, the result is usually pretty bizarre. But then, if you're into guro it's probably all good.
