6th Combo - [Twisted Future/Dream]

Warnings: Violence and death.

Metal crashed against metal in a desperate cacophony. Lloyd struggled to push Kratos's sword away, but the razor sharp edge only slid closer to his throat.

"Why?" he whispered, trying to meet the other man's red eyes. His voice rose, but still retained its ragged edge. "Why did you betray us, Kratos? You were supposed to protect Colette!"

"And I did," the swordsman answered coolly. "She survived long enough to become the vessel for Martel. That was what she wanted, and what I was hired to do."

Anger boiled up inside of Lloyd, and with a growl he shoved his crossed swords forward, forcing Kratos's sword back. "But you didn't protect her!" he shouted. "Look at her, Kratos! She's-" He choked. He couldn't bring himself to finish that sentence.

Just as well, though, because Kratos mercilessly launched another flurry of attacks. It was everything Lloyd could do to block the mercenary's sword, and his exhausted body trembled with every swing he took. His muscles screamed. If only Raine-!

He angrily blinked back the tears that sprang into his eyes. Raine was already dead, and so was Genis, and it was this man's fault. This man who he'd looked up to as a mentor - as a friend! Fury gave him the strength to lift his swords again.

"Fierce Demon-"

"Grave!"

The ground gave way, then shot up in a deadly spear that slammed into his legs and chest. The energy he'd been trying to summon for his attack disappeared as pain turned his world to silvered black. Then his head connected with the ground, his whole body skidding from the impact. He was only dimly aware of his swords clattering on the ground.

Pain. It hurt. Everything hurt - even each breath he took. He struggled to open his eyes, to get up, to fight back, but even when he managed to roll onto his side, his vision swam and a burning pain lanced through his ribs. His mouth opened, but no sound came out. He couldn't even gasp.

"Did you earnestly believe you could defeat me?" Kratos's voice was soft, and Lloyd knew he was dying because he almost thought he heard regret. He tried to laugh, but he had no breath.

I'm sorry...

His vision swam again. He barely felt when the blade left his chest. He tried to catch one last glimpse of Colette. Black and purple blocked his view as Kratos knelt down.

I'm sorry... His eyes closed and all he could think of was his dad. What would Dirk think when his son never came home? I'm sorry... His mouth cracked open. "Dad..."

He never saw the way Kratos stiffened when he took his last breath.

[Lloyd watched the end of the "dream" with wide eyes. Was it a dream? It wasn't a memory. He remembered how that battle had gone, and it hadn't gone like that. But he didn't remember this dream. He must have forgotten it.

With a shudder he turned the Dreamberry off. He was so glad it was only a dream.]

*sheena, traitor, *emil, this can't be the future - can it?, #dream, *ange, angel of cruxis, daddy
