Birthday

This is my birthday. I'm turning 24.

EDIT: It's also Elvis's birthday and the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans (1815).

Here's Elvis singing "Polk Salad Annie" in Las Vegas:

And here's a song about the Battle of New Orleans (based on a fiddle tune called Eighth of January):

1814. Like in the song. Although towards the end the song suggests they used an alligator as a cannon, so maybe I should cite more reliable sources.

I've made that mistake in the past so I know better: Check it!

The Battle of New Orleans took place on January 8, 1815 and was the final major battle of the War of 1812

The lyrics are accurate, though, because they say "In 1814, we took a little trip / Down with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip." The troops moved into position in New Orleans in December of 1814.

The whole battle was kind of superfluous considering that the Treaty of Ghent had already been signed, but nobody in Louisiana knew it at the time.

It probably got Jackson elected president, though.
