I figured I'd update y'all on the status of my first attempt at entrepreneurship. As you may or may not remember, J and I decided to start roasting coffee at some point during those first sleepless months as new parents. It seems obvious to me now that it was all an attempt to stay awake, but at the time it seemed completely unrelated to baby- ( Read more... )

Hey, I might be able to come buy some coffee from you on the 19th - Andy and I will be in Portland for a wedding that weekend.

Cool! The neighborhood it's in is a little removed from the city center, but it's worth checking out thanks to a kick-ass Lebanese restaurant down the street from the market. Definitely stop by and say 'hi'!

We do decaf, too. Hell, I had to drink the shit for 9 months so I make it my responsibility to make it palatable. I would even go so far as to say that our decaf is damn good.

Visiting Portland is more like being in Canada than the US in a few ways: it's pretty white (as in people, not snow), most people are friendly, and there's a big interest in marijuana and beer. No particularly endearing accents, though. And if you get hit by a bus and don't have insurance you're screwed.

well i might have to give the decaf a go...though i don't drink it at home often anymore, i'm more of a tea guy these days...if you can equal the "ethical bean", then you make a kick ass decaf...yeh portland seems cool and seems to share a lot with vancouver...and who can argue with pot and beer...ha ha...and i'm a federal gov't worker, so i have tons of medical insurance...even for the u.s...

Plus that falls on my 40th b-day.

We've been working on starting it for a long time, but it didn't feel real until we actually started selling some coffee. Of course, this is all an excuse to go visit Central and S. America "on business".
