There's a rather ominous bank of cloud on the horizon to the East, visible above the trees. There has been a gradual rise in temperature, hasn't there? One would hope it grows a little stifling before the storms break it ( Read more... )

Why so many questions, magister? What do you do with the answers?

I can but wonder at the diversity of our cultural development. I assure you, there's very little that's sinister to it.

Any insights to share, then? Are we really as different as we seem?

As it stands... not as yet.

Perhaps people are the same everywhere, motivated by the same things.

what, gonna compile a little textbook for the crowds?

I fear that while such a book might be of interest to the curious, such as myself, there's no logical reason to compile. Those who wish their feelings known can speak them here, for others to see or not see. There's nothing quite so formal about it, Namae.

... Unless you would have desired a copy, yourself? I apologise if the news comes as a disappointment, but no doubt you could produce your own magnum opus from the questions that you, too, have posed.

I don't dislike it, in honesty.

But I daresay your feelings may differ. You aren't still upset about all that, are you?

Honest curiosity, I fear. I can't boast of much more than a constant desire for answers.

... The most fundamental of instincts.

And beyond that principle, you'd enforce it no matter the cost?

My experience hasn't ever been all or nothing. Your life's constantly shaped, so the same goes for your personal philosophy. Until you reach something that questions your philosophy there's no motivation to change it.

[chuckles a bit breathlessly]

Though saying this, I could be wrong.

And as to how you find your philosophy-- tragedy tends to be a great motivator.

... That does seem appropriate. That tragedy, being one of those great and terrible experiences, gives way to wisdom.

It sounds as though you've known that sort of tragedy personally. Does that mean you have a philosophy of your own, as it stands?

Naturally, I don't think that any person can mindfully go through life without a philosophy of your own.

But my philosophy is a selfish one, which is about as personal as it gets.

Though now that I've given some info, Why is it you're curious to know? Are you seeking for a philosophy?

Perhaps that's natural. Speaking of one's feelings can feel entirely exposing.

... I wouldn't say that I'm seeking, precisely. More that my present principles are undergoing a forced change of sorts.

This certainly is a trending topic as of late, isn't it? [ a chuckle ] I can't help but be curious; what is your personal philosophy?

It does seem to have a particularly marked significance here. I suppose when we are stripped of everything, our principles are all we have left.

Unless we elect to give them up as well, of course.

Why, I honestly couldn't say. My current feelings are in something of a transition due to an incident that broke into my philosophy, and so I don't know what to think. What about you?

I find that my beliefs are not so easily shaken.

Ah, I'm envious. I fear that a tenuous grasp on my own morality is my one weakness.

What are the beliefs you hold so true to, if I might ask?
