Summary: Seulgi had crushed on Irene for over a year and she decides that enough was enough and found the perfect way to let her crush know her name.

Seulgi felt like she wanted to run or jog or just move. It’s always like this when it comes to pre-performance jitters. A part of her wanted to ask the MC could he push their set back another slot just to give her more time to get herself focus.

“Don’t even think about it,” her best friend, Seungwan, said. “We have practiced this dance for months and months and we are going to be amazing. Stop worrying already!” Seulgi smiled at her friend, thankful to have her by her side right now. She was also right. They knew the choreography backwards and forwards, they should since the two made it up.

Seulgi took a deep breath, turning to glance out from behind the stage to watch the act before theirs. She peeked at the crowd of students enjoying the show and her eye landed on the group of girls everyone seem to be trying to impress tonight.

They called themselves Red Velvet. One of the elite groups at Seoul School of Arts. The girls were the best of the best at everything. Singing, dancing, and acting, all while holding on to some of the top grades in their respective years. Everyone wanted to be apart of them, and the ones who weren't, wanted to. Only a few made the cut, and even those didn't get to hang out with the group’s princess Bae ‘Irene’ Joohyun.

Irene was sweet and adorably cute, nice to everyone she meets and had a smile that set fire to Seulgi’s heart. It was her voice that stunned the most, though. Every since the first time Seulgi heard her sing, she was hooked. Too bad they were never in the same class together, or club or sport. The chance to say hello never came either. Seulgi was sure that Irene or none of the other members of Red Velvet even knew her name.

She was sure though, that after tonight, it won’t be easily forgotten.

The crowd cheered as the last set came to a close, the polite whoops for the 1st year who seemed more nervous are she almost flew behind the curtains. Seulgi watched as Seungwan gave the girl a thumbs up and passed Seulgi the chair they will be using for their routine.

The MC clapped for the girl as well as he walked to the side of the stage and held up the mike. “Next we have Seulgi and Wendy who will be performing S.E.S. Be Natural!”

Seulgi stepped out first and walked to the middle of the stage, with Seungwan close behind. Her friend wanted to use a ‘stage’ name to make it easier for people to remember her. She knew it was a cover though; for her friend got the name from her mom for loving to go to the fast food restaurant with the same name so much when she was little. Seulgi decided a while ago to keep that piece of info to herself, for now.

The thought of her friend’s stage name cleared her thinking a bit as they put their chairs in place and stepped into position. This was their song, their dance, their moment. The white suit outfits with black lapels match the song’s original styling but that was all that connected them to song. The dance was all their own, and it shown the moment ‘Wendy’ started to sing.

From start to finish, Seulgi threw herself into every dance move and made sure she left anyone whose eyes caught her were left breathless, including her current crush. She didn't care if her eyes lingered on Irene a little longer than they locked with others. Seulgi wanted Irene to watch her, to know that she was being watched back and she didn't care who would notice. A year had been wasted away in want and there was no way she was going to let another year go by.

As the song came to an end, the crowd roared with a thunderous applause. Seulgi and ‘Wendy’ bowed to the crowed then quickly grabbed their chairs and rushed back stage. Everyone they passed gave them a thumbs up or a high five. Even after their chairs were put up and the other acts went on, people kept glancing their way backstage.

“This is working better then you thought,” Seungwan commented with a sly grin.

Seulgi shook her head with a smile. “Yeah, we got everyone’s attention but...its far from enough.” She whispered the last part as more people congratulated them on their routine.

“You worry too much,” Seungwan giggled. “I saw how Irene watched you and I also caught they way you kept looking her way. I’m pretty sure you achieved what you wanted.”

“Not yet,” Seulgi tied her hair in a ponytail and found her friend blinking at her oddly.

“She knows my name yes, but she’s no closer to being mine,” she explained.

“Oh,” Seungwan said slowly then she smiled brightly at Seulgi, “I get the feeling that i don’t want to even think about missing school tomorrow.”

Seulgi threw an arm around Seungwan’s shoulder, “They don’t have these things on Thursday for nothing.” The school had a habit of having events on odd days so that there will always be something to talk about during classes. The talent show was more of a showcase; no trophy at the end so everyone leaves a winner. Its works out for everyone involved, especially for people like Seulgi.

People with plans to get the girl of their dreams before it was too late, that is.

Before they knew it, all participants were ushered back on stage to bow and wave to the crowd. Seulgi lead Seungwan to a spot almost at the middle of the stage but not quite. It was in Irene’s line of sight but only if she turned her head a little to the right. As the MC gave his closing speech, Seulgi looked over the audience and smiled at all who looked directly at her. Except for one.
Seulgi waited until most of the crowd was focused on the MC before her briefly glanced to her left, finding Irene watching her with interest showing in her soft brown eyes. She smiled coolly at Irene, hoping her eyes didn't make her appear to be like a some cat looking as if it hasn't eaten in days.

Before her heart rate could make her flush under Irene’s attention, Seulgi turned her eyes back to the MC as he gave the ending cheer and the shouts of goodbye rang out. Seulgi released a breath she didn't know she was holding as everyone filed to the lockers to collect their things further behind the stage, right outside the dressing rooms.

“Want a ride home,” Seungwan asked, “my mom will stop by Wendy’s if you want to pick up something to eat?”

“No, I’m gonna walk off some of this energy I have,” Seulgi answered, “and I am sure she was going to stop there before going home anyway so I will see you tomorrow.” They waved goodbye to each other and Seulgi went to change out of her performing cloths and into her school uniform. The sound of the crowd went from a roaring mass of voices quite quickly; everyone seem to be in a rush to get home like always. There was no homework to be done so she took her time. It was no guarantee that she would get a moment to think to herself once she got home so now was the best time to pick a plan of action for the drama she was about to create.

Seulgi had gotten Irene’s attention, now all she has to make sure she keeps it.

“Oh my god we’re famous,” Seungwan squealed into Seulgi’s arm the second they met for lunch at their usual table closest to the outside basketball courts. “Some girls even parted their group of friends just to let me walk through, I almost burst out laughing.”

“Glad you’re having fun,” Seulgi commented, opening her meal. She was so focus on making sure her chopsticks didn’t drop anything she didn’t notice the small group of girls that approached her table. It was only after Seungwan said hello to them and Seulgi looked up.

“May I help you,” she smiled kindly, trying not to look disappointed or upset.

They were from Red Velvet.

None happened to be Irene.

‘Why would it be Irene anyway’ Seugli reasoned with herself. Irene never did the recruiting, she was just one of the ones that gave the order. A knee touched hers under the table and she was brought out of her thoughts only to catch the end of what one of the girls said.

“--so it would be an honor if you and Wendy would like to join Red Velvet,” the girl finished with a confident smile.

“Thank you for the ofter,” Seulgi smiled back, “but we will have to decline.”

The three girls gasped and so did all the ones scattered around the seating area who were eavesdropping on the interchange.

“W-what??”

“Red Velvet is a great club to join but, for us, it wouldn’t be the greatest fit.”

Someone close by had dropped their food on the ground and others could not believe what Seulgi was saying.

“Again we thank you for the offer but you can tell your superiors we decline.”

Seulgi picked up her chopsticks and started on her lunch again.

“Wow,” Seungwan whistled as she watched the three girls almost run back inside the building. “Seulgi, you just...made them question everything they stand for by saying no to them.”

“That was the point,” she sung, taking another bite of her lunch.

“But what if Queen Vic--.” Seulgi gave her friend a look.

“You know as well as I do that Victora didn’t make the call. Those girls are under Irene, and if she wants me,” Seulgi smirked, “she’s going to have to get me herself.”

Over the past year they both have watched as girls and guys be turned down by Irene or one of her subjects. Seulgi didn’t want to announce her undying love and be rejected or candy and gifts for Irene denied. The only way to get the results she wanted was to get Irene to to want her.

And from the sounds of the whispered conversations that were everywhere Seugli went inside the school, her mission would soon be accomplished.

Seulgi had been in the dance studio behind the stage after school for about an hour before the door opened a moment after she ran through a new routine. She turned to the door only to be greeted by a very flushed, very determined Irene.

“Hello,” Seulgi smiled with a small wave, trying not to think about how rosey Irene’s cheeks looked under the warm studio lights. Or how her hair looked every bit of styled when it was clear she’d been in a hurry to get here.

“Hi,” Irene said, smoothing her blazer down and running a hand through her hair, an action Seulgi had seen her do plenty of times, enough to find herself watching and waiting for it to happen whenever Irene was in sight.

“May I help you,” Seulgi asked after she mentally shook her head. She had to keep her cool, or else everything she had done would mean nothing.

“My dongsaengs told me you declined our offer to join Red Velvet.”

“Yes,” Seulgi nodded.

“You’re the first to do so,” Irene stated. “Ever.”

Seulgi couldn’t help it and laughed. “So I guess that means I made history.”

Irene frowned. “But Red Velvet could help you...and you could help us,” she added at the end, walking further into the dance studio, letting the door close behind her.

“Oh really,” Seulgi pondered aloud. “Red Velvet has more than enough girls who are great at what they do.”

“But they don’t have you,” Irene bit her lip and Seulgi got the impression that she was trying her best to not let her eyes wonder over her practice clothes that fitted her very nicely.

“You don’t need me,” Seulgi stated, eyes playful, “not in Red Velvet you don’t.” She turned around to put her shirt into her practice bag.

“How do you know that,” Irene countered, “you and--Seungwan sshi would fit perfectly with my team.”

“And you would fit perfectly with me.”

Seulgi’s turned back around so fast she could have sworn she got whiplash. “What?

Irene blushed and looked away from Seulgi’s surprised expression.
“I’ve seen you around. You and Seungwan dance with her brother’s team in competitions sometimes in Incheon. I saw you perform last year. I knew you went here but we’ve never met, always in different circles…but now...”

“We still will be, Irene.”

“But why?” she was more than frustrated and much more closer than she was a few moments ago. “Why won’t you be with me!?”

Irene gasped, “Wait I meant--”

“I like you,” Seulgi confessed, “that’s why I can’t be in Red Velvet. I have liked you for some time now but its almost impossible for anyone to get close to you, even the girls in Red Velvet need appointments to talk to you. I don’t want to be your teammate, Irene; I just want to be yours.”

“Is that why you kept looking at me last night,” Irene asked, tipping her head to the side cutely.

Seulgi raised an eyebrow and leaned in closer. “Did you like me looking at you, Irene?”

“...Maybe.”

That curious look was back and Seulgi was started to think that maybe that wasn’t curiosity at all but something more.

“How about we go out and then you can tell me what you do and do not like me to do?” Shei watched as Irene blushed again at her question but smiled back with a playfulness in her eyes that hadn’t been seen before.

“I think I would like that very much.”

Seulgi almost screamed.

She really did it.

Mission accomplished.

“You know, you could have like bumped into in the hallway or something to get my attention,” Irene commented, laying out across Seulgi’s bed.
They dated for two weeks before declaring their relationship, surprising the school and sending the gossip girls in a frenzy. That was months ago, and everyone was going back to normal but Seulgi had to explain herself to Red Velvet’s Queen which was more very interesting to say the least.

“And have your members push we away before i could even get close to you, no thanks,” Seulgi giggled crawling next to her girlfriend.

“I think I was more than effective with how I got you,” she nodded, nuzzling Irene’s cheek. The giggle she gets from that action is something Seulgi doesn’t think she’ll ever get tired of.

“Maybe you’re right,” Irene smiled, linking their fingers together. “I have you know now and that’s all that matters.”

Seulgi laughed at that and leaned over and kissed Irene. “I agree with that.”

“Good, now less talking and more kissing.”

Seulgi rolled herself on top of Irene with a glint in her eye, “Whatever you want, Princess.”
