narrow vision of the world around us

Dec 09, 2007 23:14

Have just enjoyed my first day of normal vision after being struck in the eye by a thistle on Thursday. I was working at a new site, being paid to help a 20 acre young tree planting succeed in the battle against the grass and weed. It's a great high profile location and will give me and another bloke regular work for the next two or three years ( Read more... )

Shit! What is the future prognosis? Total repair?

I hope so. The work you do is ridiculously commendable, would hate to hear it injured you in return :(

Take care Mr!

Prognosis is pretty good, the doc said i should be fine, but any serious pain again and i should get back there quickly.
Two days using it again, feels a bit tender but ok.

The work you do is ridiculously commendable ...., thankyou so very much :)
It's such physically and mentally draining work, sometimes feels hopeless when we look at the shit going on around us, at least i can say i tried (and made a living from it) ... hearing the support from you and others really helps, thankyou again.

A lot of things feel hopeless - if I listened to the negativity surrounding recycling I wouldn't bother but surely it helps???

I do whatever I can (maniacally so) but I often wonder if it even makes a dent :(

I heard stats on paper usage/wastage/recycling the other day and nearly cried. My boss won't pay for paper recycling (only secure document shredding for security reasons) and he has an entire staff totally committed to recycling. We recycle approx. 14% of paper nationally damn it. I don't *know* a whole lot about this but feel the need to do more ...

Living in such a built up area can dull the senses you know? Kudos to you and your bigger picture - it's inspiring :)

Hmm, I'm starting to get used to the humidity up north while wearing thick long pants and a long sleaved disco shirt (bright orange shirt with reflective tape sewn in around it every 15 cm or so), hard hat and safety glasses. I can't speak highly enough of the safety gear, bbut it's easy to forget it. I had a run in with a large country huntsman spider yesterday on site. Now, like you with your glasses, I should have had leather gloves on, but it's humid and hot so I left them in the truck. I was installing a sim card in one of our portable electronic message signs and had to open the front panel to get to the modem. I unlocked the sign face and then put my thumb under a small handle to lift the face out. I felt a soft pouch and then warm liquid as the pouch burst. Next, the legs came out and the head and I saw the biggest darn huntsman I have ever seen with its abdomen hanging loosley from the front half of the body. I can't believe it didn't bite me and then I remembered the gloves. It pays o keep them on. Thankfully, I ( ... )

safety gear on a summers day redfaced_duck December 21 2007, 11:06:17 UTC

Leather gloves on a summers day sound like a luxury compared to what i wear for this spray work .... king-gee overalls, knee high rubber boots and elbow length thick rubber gloves, plus hat and face mask ... and if that doesn't build up enough sweat, i have 10 lt of chemical in a pack on my back ...no wonder most of the regeners take the mid summer off work i'm noticing :)

Looking forward to catching up in the new year :)
