I am disproportionately annoyed with all the pope fangirl/fanboy love. People on my social media feeds are acting as if the man is the second coming of Jesus. Yes, he's more progressive than previous popes. But that does not change the fact that he is the head of an oppressive religion with many problems. I see him reaching out, being humble, etc.

I get your anger at the church, I really do. And by extension your lack of "love" for the pope. I can totally respect that. You should post it on Facebook! (Well...maybe not...there never seems to be a consensus on there.) I only like him because he is at least putting a better face on christianity. But when I read your post, I get it. And I think you're right.
