i've always believed that when married my husband and i will take on a surname which is a combination/hyphened version of both our surnames. i think this is nice because it shows unity and equality, unlike taking the husbands surname which to me is too much like them placing ownership over you and you only being seen as lesser than your husband.

yah but that still kinda applies that your whole life has to change when you get married...something I am not very comfortable with...

I mean you don't change as a person just cuz you got married...you are still you and he/she is still them... Besides what if you have a hyphened name and your kids do the same...that would be one f**ked up name...hehe

I do like the recreate a new name idea...sounds cool! But let's face it...we are so so lazy...

I'm curious - How is it that your last name isn't your father's?

I never quite understood why women changed their last name either. I've seen a myriad of reasons, and I still don't find them convincing.

i'm down with both having a hyphen. i think it's hot and like fascist panties said shows a bond.

i mean, even if you dont change your last name then you still got your dad's. maybe a new last name altgother is kinda fun after marriage.

oh good question...so my last name was suppose to be my father's first name. However, some religious dude named me my first name which happened to be my father's name with an "A" added at the end. So I couldn't have the same first and the last name...so they give me another random last name which is actually a common women's first name. So basically I have two first name and no last name.

funny eh? That's what you get when you get young people who are allowed to have babies..hehe
