Profile
Name: Asuka Langley Soryu
Age: 14 in canon; in DDD she's since aged up to 16 after a year and half on the community.
Height: 5'3" - right around average height for a girl her age.
Weight: Not specified, but petite. Perhaps slightly underweight.
Body Type: Asuka is still a young girl, beginning to go through puberty. However, that puberty has seen fit to gift her with some cleavage and long, slim legs. She doesn't seem to have gone through a gangly phase at all and is, in fact, quite attractive. She does have musculature from her Eva nad martial arts training, but not enough to really show.
Hair: A bright red-brown, usually kept tied back. Almost always has her A-10 Nerve Clips used as hair clips or some other ties or bows keeping it up. It's well-maintained and exceedingly well-cared for.
Eyes: Blue
Clothing Style: Casual, for the most part. When not in her plugsuit or school uniform, she tends towards appropriate clothing for the weather, although she seems to have preference for dresses and skirts. However, she also doesn't have an issue with wearing jeans or shorts (shorts preferred so she can show off her legs).
Speaking Style: Asuka is typicall either blunt and insulting or polite and charming, depending on what she thinks of a person. She tends to try and at least act friendly when she first meets someone, but that can degrade quickly if she doesn't like them and will quite easily switch over to bluntness and insults. She tends to refer to people by their first names. When angry or frustrated, she swears (usually in German).
Personality: Asuka comes off as an overbearing, proud, willful, arrogant and brash young woman. She does tend to be rather playful and happy-go-lucky, at least when she’s in a good mood. Added to that, however, is her need and want to be the center of attention. She’ll show off, she’ll boast. She truly is skilled, though. It’s not as if she doesn’t have skills to be proud of. She simply likes other people to know that, yes, she is that good. Part of this may go back to the period of her life where her mother believed that a doll was Asuka and refused to acknowledge her daughter. She simply doesn’t want to be forgotten or to be alone.
Asuka will tease people relentlessly, whether good-natured or mean-spirited (often mean-spirited), insulting or needling at others in order to provoke a reaction. She has contempt for people she believes are weak or can’t stand up for themselves and has contempt for authority figures she doesn’t truly like. She feels that she is the best in the world at what she does and that no one will ever be able to live up to her. When she is proven wrong or when is shown to be wrong about that sort of thing, her most likely reaction is get angry, hurl insults, and then go off to sulk and to reassure herself (and possibly others) that it was a fluke. Next time they won’t get so lucky. Similarly she refuses to acknowledge her own mistakes and will often shift the blame to others in an attempt to reinforce her own psyche. She also tends to get frustrated when other people can’t keep up with her.
In combat and under pressure, Asuka reacts quickly and often decisively. She doesn’t always react in the most well-thought out ways, but she does react and move quickly. She’s quick on the uptake and aggressive. However, this often leads to her disregarding orders she believes are stupid or don’t make sense and will resort to a head-on, aggressive approach (which she believes has served her well in the past).
When Asuka feels insulted or if she gets angry at someone, she will react quickly and decisively, either with words or with some sort of physical attack (usually a slap or a hurled object). She’s very touchy and has a temper, which is partly to hide her own insecurities about herself and her work. In fact, most of her arrogant, proud personality is just that - a façade to hide her own vulnerabilities and the fact that deep down inside, she really is just a scared little girl who wants help. She’s gotten so good at repressing that part of her and repressing the traumatic memories that led to this that even she believes it.
Asuka also has a special hatred and contempt for people who are “over-logical”, who don’t show emotion, and in general don’t act human or don’t react to her teasing with anything. In her mind, they act like “dolls” and this again leads back to the rather traumatizing experience with her mother when she was a child. Rei Ayanami, the First Child, was one of these and Asuka detested her, both for her inability to respond like a “normal” person and the fact that Rei garnered attention from both Shinji Ikari and Gendo Ikari, taking away attention from her, the Second Child.
TL;DR: she’s a messed up teenager. Really, really messed up.
Her time on the community has mellowed her out somewhat. Although she still has a hell of a temper, she'll open up a bit easier and in general is much more friendly then she used to be.
Hobbies: Playing video-games, dancing, swimming (including scuba diving), arcade crane games, playing the violin, martial arts.
Talents: Superb Evangelion pilot, excellent problem-solving skills. She's a child prodigy and learns horrifically fast. She can play the violin, dance and knows basic self-defense.
Biography:
Canon
Asuka was born in Germany in late 2001 to her father and her mother, Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu. She holds an American citizenship, as well as German. She is one-quarter Japanese, which accounts for her rather strange name. As a young child, she was traumatized by several incidents involving her mother.
Kyoko was injured during a contact test of the Eva 02 series and driven insane when part of her soul was bound to the Eva's core. As a result, she no longer recognized Asuka as her daughter, instead thinking a doll was Asuka and referring to the real Asuka as "that girl over there". This was compounded by her mother's later suicide by hanging; Asuka found the body when she returned to tell her mother the good news that she'd been selected as an Eva pilot. Adding to the horror, her mother had also "killed" the doll.
She resolved that she would never cry again and that she would rely only on herself; she would not need help from anyone. Her father remarried, but Asuka never truly got close to her new stepmother. As she told Shinji, she doesn't hate her stepmother, she simply feels as if she could never replace her real mother.
She achieved an unspecified degree at a university in Germany and trained as an Eva pilot. In late 2015, she was transferred to Japan, along with Unit 02, to help combat the Angels. There, she served alongside Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami in a series of combat engagements against the Angels.

Suffice to say it's complicated. She's moved through her own canon and come out the other side much changed. Following Third Impact and her own survival and reformation out of the sea that had once been humanity, both she and Shinji were retrieved and allowed to live with Minato Arisato for a time. Soon afterwards, Kaworu followed. Despite the relative peace and quite she found herself living in, Asuka was plagued by self-doubt, bouts of depression and PTSD (including nightmares) from her rather traumatic death at the ends of the mass production Eva series.
Her relationship with Kaworu remained antagonistic, although she tried to get closer to Shinji following her own expriences during Human Instrumentality. Still wavering on whether or not she ought to allow others close, her relationships suffered. As Shinji drifted away from both her and Kaworu (eventually vanishing out of their lives without notice). In the meantime, however, she had resolved not to fail another world, found new purpose and drive and did her best to assist Minato and his friends against the shadows.
Following the conclusion of the chapter of their lives, she found herself adrift and without purpose again. She moved into an apartment with Kaworu and Minato and attempted to live a normal life (a bit harder than it sounds). She grew closer to Kaworu as time went on and finally, they began officially dating each other. For now, she tries to live with what her life has become and move on. She still harbors deep-rooted psychological issues, however, and is unsure of what to do next....
Threadhopping with this character - yes, no, or what?: Sure, why not? As long as it's not labeled private, it's fine.
Hugging this character?: Go ahead, but expect to get slapped if she doesn't like you and flailing or surprised stares even if she does (especially if you're a man). She's not one for intimate physical contact.
Giving this character a kiss?: This will earn you a slap and a chewing out regardless of whether she likes you as a friend or not, but feel free to try! She'll resist if she's not interested in you. She'll kiss you herself if she really wants to (although she may pretend not to like it).
Punching this character (provided they are given an opportunity to fight back): Sure, but she'll probably punch you back. She's no weakling, at least in the willpower and determination department.
Is there anything YOU DO NOT WANT MENTIONED near this character?: Not off the top of my head, although she doesn't like discussing her dead mother.
Is there anything you need us to KNOW about interacting with this character? She's a willful, brash, and rather arrogant person. She's also extremely intelligent. Other then that, she's relatively normal person.
