[You don't know how happy Robert is to hear that someone else is from a normal world. Though it might show in his voice.]

Absolutely nothing paranormal of any sort exists in my world. At all.

Unless one counts the existence of extra-Terran life as paranormal... But surely that concept is at least theoretically plausible to most worlds, even if they have not discovered life outside their own planets yet.

So... no magic but you do have aliens, huh?

If that is what you usually refer to them as, then yes.

Generally most species keep to their own planets or solar systems though, save the ones who are forced to abandon them. It is difficult to find a star system similar enough to one's own to make the journey worth it, though most habitable zones can be detected easily enough. [Robert's an astrobiologist, he could ramble all day about this.]

Um. I'd be from one of the worlds that haven't discovered extra-Terran life yet. [Her poor brain. She asks about non-magic users and gets alien rambles. Which is okay. She can deal with this.]

So... why would anyone be forced to abandon their solar system?

[It's like a theoretical conversation with her father. She can totally do this.]

[Robert's just... the tl;dr king too. Poor Alexis' brain indeed.]

Typically, such a situation would arise as the result of irrepairable damage to a planet's biosphere, or an anticipated situation such as the death of a parent star. Though I have only seen a few civilizations who have lasted long enough to be actively anticipating such an event.

I suppose your world is... at pre-Terran technological levels? Back when my planet was referred to as "Earth". Although there are so many differences between the universes here that the same planet means quite disparate things to different individuals.

I'm not sure what pre-Terran means, but, yes, I live on Earth. In New York City. No spaceships, no aliens, no magic.

You are the second being I have heard of that has claimed to come from this place - though considering the first was a non-human sapient, I would hesitate to say that it is the same New York City.

No spacecraft at all? [Robert makes a little note of surprise.] Then your world is indeed pre-Terran in technology. Quite so, in fact.

It is fascinating how many different spacetimes the Luceti residents seem to comprise of.

I don't know of any non-human sapients running around the city, so... probably not.

Well, we have the shuttles that go up occasionally; they orbit and resupply the space stations, but that's it.

Ah, so all your spacecraft are in planetary orbit as satellites. Hmm. [Robert's internally cringing a bit. WHY SO BACKWARD.]

Regardless, I find it most reassuring to hear that my world is not the only one devoid of magic. It has been... quite disturbing for me to have to come to terms with it so far. [Huge understatement; besides, Robert hasn't entirely come to terms with it yet.]

It was quite a shock. It still is, even if I see it and know it exists here.

Indeed, I understand that feeling well. I only hope that there are some sort of principles behind magic which I may endeavour to study while I am here.

I'm pretty sure there are some logical rules behind it all. It can't just be arbitrary.

[Alexis makes Robert happy with the statement "logical rules".]

I would wager you must be correct - but having seen several separate strains of magic, one wonders if there might be some kind of unifying principle or if they all operate with entirely independent physics. In any case, the sheer study of that alone could take years of reports. [And he sighs in a happy sort of way. Yes, he likes doing reports.]

Perhaps so. [She notices that happy sigh and has to chuckle a little.] But even with separate strains of magic, there's enough similarity that I've seen that would seem to indicate some sort of base principle.

... Not that I'm an expert, by any means.

Even if you are not an expert, your statements are most insightful. It is good to hear that, despite the time you come from, intellectualism is still present in yourself.

I am actually quite curious about the magical phenomenon. I hope to, at some point, compose a genuine report on it... Even if at first I was quite reluctant to admit its existence.

[That was about the weirdest backhanded almost compliment she's ever been given.]

I love to hear some of your thoughts on it, when you get some of those reports started.
