This woman needs to be fired.

This semester I have an advanced fiction writing class with quite possibly one of the worst professors I've ever had. Think of the chatty, somewhat ditzy, could maybe be smart if she weren't so vapid girl you have in any one of your classes, and all of a sudden let her loose to direct a classroom for a semester. She constantly interrupts people ( Read more... )

Aw, Dolen ain't so awful; she is after all the only professor here to ever give me an A. Her teaching is, however, quite blustery, and she's full of crap, but it doesn't even matter. Do what I did and see how much you can disrupt class while appearing in earnest. Those who can't do, teach. If you can write, you can already write, and the only thing that's going to really make you better is to keep writing, and read. If you're taking advanced creative writing for the instructor's magic bag of tricks, then you're probably going to learn more about how writing is taught than how it's actually written. I'd advise you to mostly ignore the class sessions--doodle or write an ode to your favorite Thunder Cat--and take advantage of the time you get to write, write, write.

Also, I feel like you're being particularly harsh since I don't remember you giving Keith James a scalding post. What a hack.

While Keith James was a hack, I didn't care about his class. I knew it wasn't going to help my major, I just did it to get some requirements out of the way. What this woman is teaching me is supposed to be my primary focus of study, so it's a little different.

woah, i agree, that is one peice of crappy writing. what the hell was she even trying to say? and her writing style, trying to sound like a southern run-on sentence girl, was horrible.
you never had him, but there was a teacher in high school who was alot like her: never actually taught anything, just talked about his "poem" that he got published in his college art magazine. by the end of the year we were all so tired of him that almost every piece we wrote (at least he gave out assignments) had a jab at his intellegence in it. james curran was the best at it. the sad thing is, is that i dont think Woolfe ever even noticed.
having someone like that in college would piss me off so much. we are paying to learn, not to be dumbed down by someone who thinks they are the shit.
sorry, but bad teaching is a pet peeve of mine.
