[Ami freezes in her panic the moment she spots the lion; but a moment later when she hears him speaking, and more, when she realizes he has wings (it took a moment with that fright!), she starts to force herself to relax, though her heart still pounds.]

I've never met a lion that didn't talk, so I don't know what you mean by that.
