Personality:
Green is exactly the guy in your life you want to slap most. He made the transformation from the brattiest kid ever to the smuggest man ever like an olympic gymnast-- smoothly and easily. Basically, take a hefty dose of abandonment issues at his core, add the need to be the best at everything (that matters), and sprinkle some actual talent over the top, and you get Green. Yes, that's right. Actual talent. He really has gotten pretty good at this Pokemon thing over the years, and really, he wasn't so bad at it even when he was a kid. Seriously! Like, whatever, all the teenybopper trainers totally fall asleep every night kissing their Red photos and dreaming about going on a romantic date with him where he's super charming and funny and sweet (as if that vegetable would ever do anything but stare blankly across the table), all because he's the fabled kid who took down Team Rocket and became Champion in no time flat. He did it all first, you know. Okay, maybe not the Team Rocket thing, but the whole Champion business?! He beat the Elite Four just as well as Red did, only to find that dead eyed jackass toddle into the room half a minute after he took the title and take it away. Red is all at once enraging, an obstacle, and below him. He hates him, but he loves him. He does. It would be far too much of a sign of weakness to ever admit that he thinks of Red like a brother. He's really the kind of person who shows his love by punching rather than hugging.
Green has the ability to hold a grudge. Like, really. It's not that he's vindictive, but he just doesn't forget things like that. So don't cross him, because he'll make your life a living hell. You'll have to move to escape from his haughty chuckle and superiority complex. Even to people he doesn't necessarily dislike, he's always looking for opportunities to prove his utter awesomeness. He makes up for his insufferable nature with his charisma, and has gained somewhat of a reputation back home for... appreciating the attentions of some of the ladies with looser inhibitions. His looks and confidence help him in that department, but also help him in convincing some of the people he doesn't really hate all that much that he's not such a terrible guy. When it comes to someone like Red or even Blue, though, it's kind of a different story. He pumps up his game around his rival, and plays it off to anyone that'll listen that his Pallet Town childhood friends are the respective banes of his existence, when really, he loves them as much as he loves his own sister or grandfather. If you were ever the person to suggest that though, you would get a fistful of disagreement.
As for his Pokemon, he loves them too. He's way less guarded about it, though. He had the tendency to push them too hard when he was a kid, but he's become much more receptive as he grew up, along with a lot more mellow. He hates admitting defeat, but he's willing to. He likes his Pokemon to be as hungry for success as he is. He's managed to pass that philosophy onto them. Bulba is his first Pokemon, and as such, he is incredibly protective of him. Honestly, Green's personality would probably be much more abrasive at SBG without Bulba, as he is the hardworking, friendly yin to Green's smartass, aggressive yang. He appreciates the loyalty, because he's been known to butt heads with one of his other Pokemon, Char. They've always had the whole "angry, misunderstood youth" thing in common, and so their personalities either gel incredibly well or clash horribly. Green knows Char's past, though, and he knows he needs to be given extra attention. But their arguments can get pretty intense, which is bound to happen when two assholes with abandonment issues are as close as they are. And they are close-- for all of his assholish tendencies, Char is much more likely to boost Green's ego than put him down. Nyx is the newest member of Green's little entourage. She's a lot like Char really, but way more rational. Which is nice. She's hardworking, and he fully approves of her shenanigans. And then Green bred little baby Gastlies with fire attacks as was his plan all along. She's sort of the medium when Char's in his worst moods, with Bulba being blindly loving, Char being oppositional, and Nyx being harsh but still understanding. In the end, he does have a set of incredibly loyal Pokemon. He knows every one of them would die for him, and feels the same way. Ever since he became a gym leader, the need to prove himself has gotten stronger, but still not at the cost of his Pokemon's psyche.
Basically, if he teases you, it either means he likes you, or he hates you. Good luck with this psychological mess!
Backstory:
Once upon a time in Pallet Town, three children were born within months of each other. As was the Pallet Town tradition for young boys, they were all named after colors. (Blue's parents were already rather attached to the name by the time they found out that she was a girl.)
Being born with vibrant green eyes, the new Oak baby was aptly named Green. He lived with his gentle sister Daisy, his pragmatic parents, and his smart and kind grandfather lived just down the road. Across the street was the precocious Blue, and right next door was the quiet Red. Green spent a lot of time with these kids, and, like many other children, was completely invested in Pokemon. He spent a lot of time at his grandfather's lab, playing with the Pokemon there. He swore he was going to be a better Pokemon trainer than anyone, someday, better than his parents, better than Blue, and especially better than Red. On his way back from Prof. Oak's lab with Daisy one day, they came home to find that their parents had split. Gonzo. Taken off. Daisy, at this point, was old enough to watch over Green, but she didn't have the parenting knowledge to reign him in or anything like that. Green got bitter, treated the other kids more maliciously, and basically became what they call in the scientific journals a bully. Prof. Oak did all he could to help, but by that point, he was past helping. He knew that Green really like Pokemon, though, so one day he gave him the task of running around the backyard with a Pokemon egg. Now, this wasn't really much of a perk up, but when it finally hatched it was. He looked at the oddly colored baby Bulbasaur in his arms and started to cry. He wanted him. He needed him. And he would make him so strong that his parents, wherever they were, would hear about him and his awesome rockstar Bulbasaur and feel sorry they ever left.
When the day finally came to set off on his very own Pokemon journey, Green's grandfather very cautiously handed the Bulbasaur over to Green, who had previously spent half a week preaching the virtues of a Squirtle to Red. Once Red chose said Squirtle, Green could hardly believed his trick worked and proceeded to mop the floor with the other boy's Pokemon using type advantage, oh yeah. Except... neither Pokemon knew any type moves yet, and Green lost. OH, whatever! Next time. He took off as soon as he lost, catching a Pidgey in haste and setting off on his way to be The Very Best at the Kanto Gym Challenge. Along the way he got many more Pokemon, including a flighty Eevee, a laidback Blastoise, and a real asshole of a Charmeleon. He beat all the gym leaders, always a step ahead of Red, to his glee. But every time he battled Red, he still lost. He had no idea why. When the time finally came to beat the Elite Four, Green slugged through with some difficulty. By the time he beat Lance, it was official. He was the new League Champion! He could hardly believe his luck. But it was short lived, as Red made his way through the Elite Four and came in to challenge him. And he lost. Of course. He also lost his temper. How was it possible that his Pokemon were this strong, and he still could never beat damn Red? It was in his training. Red was gentler, less insane about victory. Green finally learned a lesson that day... but he would never admit it.
The next number of years went by pretty fast. Green traveled around, checking out Johto, and training his Pokemon with a new outlook on the whole thing. Red maintained his Champion title for a while, before ditching it back to Lance and taking off to Johto himself. When Green heard this he was was enraged. How dare he? He wanted that title back so bad, he couldn't ever imagine renouncing it. He went to go look for Red only to find that the guy had become a ghost. After a long period of fruitless search, he finally caught wind that Red might have taken off to this school in some far away place.
He went to the school.
Shit happened.
During his time at the school he got a fancy snailmail certificate offer to run Viridian City Gym. It had been in disrepair ever since Giovanni had bolted once and for all. He accepted, of course.
Eventually, Green graduated. He made the decision to explore Sinnoh and buff up his gym for a while after graduation. He also made the decision to have Char, Bulba, and Nyx stay behind. After seeing all he needed to see in Sinnoh and renovating the Viridian Gym into some kind of hellish slide tile thing, he knew it was time to come back. He had guilt knawing at him for not having his Pokemon by his side, and back to SBG he went. He's gonna come back to a couple of big surprises. Who knew this school would be the worlds most effective Day Care?
Anything Else?:
He will be the world's worst RA but there you go.
In-Character 1st person writing sample (journal):
It's good to know that some things never change. You can all complain about the weird stuff that happens around here, but you have to admit that when those things aren't happening, shit gets pretty boring. Whatever. Where's my team? I'm back, so you better get ready. I got some sweet new training techniques in Sinnoh, after going through that godforsaken mountain. You saw it work out there, it's bound to work back here, too. Anyways, I'm an RA now, so feel free to come to me with all your problems. Not. And, if any of you teachers need any help, I guess I'm the new guy to call. Remember me? I was the kid in the back of the room who didn't give a crap.
Also, it's important to note that the League is setting up some new scheduling things because everyone is always taking off out here. They asked me if it was because they didn't pay me enough. I mean, I spent all my money on those gym renovations, it's only natural I needed some extra cash. That's right, Giovanni.
In-Character 3rd person writing post:
Green kicked a nearby can before crossing his arms in a pout. He wasn't training. He wasn't messing with anyone's heads. He wasn't doing anything he wanted to. But, in order to get the extra pay, he took this dumb RA job. So, what was he supposed to do now? Wait for some whiny student to come ask him to tuck them in? He flipped through the pages of some Pokemon breeding book, tapped a pencil, doodled a bit. Bored. Bored. He was so bored... He was a bit glad to be back, though. Not like he would ever really admit it, but the decision to come back to this school wasn't really has hard as he thought it was going to be. His Pokemon evolved. He had missed it. He couldn't miss it when Bulba evolved again. Or when Nyx evolved. And... he guessed he didn't totally not miss the other people of the school, he did attend as a student for a while. It was only natural he felt a connection to the place, to the people. Right? It didn't make him a softy, or anything. It didn't--
Knock. Green jumped, lost in thought. Oh, finally, someone showed up. Now, no one could say he didn't try. He jumped up, trying to look as disinterested as possible, and opened the door to find... nothing. Just a note on the door that had "ASSHOLE" scrawled across it in drunken looking writing. Green grumbled, tore the note off, and tossed it in the trash, before slamming his door behind him. Good to be back. He was going to bed.
