Apparently My Sense of Humour is Off

Dec 13, 2011 14:24

Does anyone else get a bad taste in their mouth after reading some of these? I've read a lot of joke forwards from my co-workers but this is the worst one I've come across. None of them were even remotely funny and, for many of them, I can see horrible gender stereotype staring right back at me. It's just...WTF?

'How to Start a Fight' - AKA Gender Stereotypes Galore )

humour...kind of, feminism, wtf, jokes

LOL! Can you at least explain to me how the "phone a friend" joke is 40 years old? I thought that started with the Millionaire show that began not-40 years ago?

Think we should come up with our own jokes on how to start a fight with the hubby? I think it'd be only fair... Hrm, take away his telly? Oh! Take away his car! *rolls eyes*

Okay, you caught me out! "Phone a friend" is younger, but the underlying stereotype isn't.

It's hard to come up with such jokes (although most husbands are a joke all on their own) without being accused of having jealous feminine viewpoints, You can't win really. Although I shall certainly pass some on when I find them - I feel sure I have some on my laptop somewhere....

Good to know, I think. :/ I thought they were horrible but the co-worker who sent them to me was giggling away as she read them. Makes me sad as she doesn't have the most supportive husband so she'd be more susceptible to this type of stereotyped joke. Sigh.

These are terrible. In pretty much every single way.

I'm sorry for subjecting you to such horrible things but, honestly, I don't know how someone could forward these on. They need to die a slow Internet death.

Tbqh, they should probably die a quick death. Even if it is less painful.

Probably a good place to stop, considering how they just get worse from there on out.

But, seriously, who would forward this crap on?! ...Apparently me although in my defense I had a point to make! *facepalm*
