I just saw THIS ARTICLE recently and thought,

HUH, I'm oppressed by being trans? I didnt know that....

I dont really know if its because of where I live [Toronto] or what but I never really thought anything of it. I dont really agree with the author at all but was wondering how others felt about the whole 'cisgender' thing. I dont think putting ( Read more... )

The problem being, of course, that if we go with the whole THERE'S ALREADY A WORD FOR THIS thing, half of the English language is unnecessary. The term "cisgender" has been around for a loooong time in chemistry, and it was pretty natural that it made the transition ( PUN?! ) to language re: human gender.

Personally, however, I find the term assumptive and disrespectful in most instances, and prefer cissexual instead.

Depends on the context, but generally I'd be against it. There are far too many words that can be attached to the end, and unless it was explicitly laid out, people would get confused/offended/etc, as they often do.

I think if you're talking about it in a community of people who know what you mean by it though, they'll get it. Sort of like 'trans', people will know what you mean. Bbut a whole lot of things can be attached to that, too. And there's people who get all offended about transvestites and even transgender vs transsexual. In the end, I think lots of people just want to have their spots in the limelight of bitching and people will always complain about something no matter what, so it's best to use what you like yourself and what you feel is most right.
