so PETA is having a "sexiest vegetarian alive" contest - i saw it in the papers. you can vote online, so i went to check it out, (you should all go vote, by the way!) and i found these videos on their website

jeez man, talk about a dishonest ad campaign. i know that these people think that what they are doing is right and good for people, but the ends don't justify the means for me and i find that ad campaign littered with half-truths and accusations.
i don't eat meat because i am a small person. i eat meat because my body requires meat to function properly. a vegetarian diet is not the healthiest thing for a lot of people (although it definitely seems to be fine for you.)
we don't call lions unethical for killing elk. we think of it as part of a majestic circle. i find it odd to assume that humans are exempt from a basic necessity such as aquisition of food just because we have developed a sense of morality.
moral people still need to eat!
(not knocking you, i guess i just don't like peta!!)
Yea, along with what you said, i always think about who is really using who here. Without us, what would happen to the livestock species in the world? they would die out. They have evolved to be efficient sources of food for humans because it aids in their survival and continuation of their species.
Also, humans evolved because of their adoption of a meat-supplemented diet. Brain's require a huge proportion of the energy we get, and through our evolution, as we began to eat meat, which is a high energy source, our brains benefited. Because humans dont have sharp teeth or strong legs, it took intelligence to catch meat, thus selecting for intelligence, and the growth of this being fuelled by the consumption of meat.
I'm not super militant about it, and i think vegetarianism is totally cool; ive just taken an anthropology class and ive thought alot about it. I dont agree with animal cruelty, but feeling bad for a pig that wouldnt exist without human dietary needs doesnt do it for me.
so in my physics class, there's all these completely idiotic sophomores who waste half the class time asking really, REALLY stupid questions that have nothing to do with physics. so the other day, they started asking this indian guy "hey, why do they eat (whatever it was) in your country?" and someone else was like "in france they eat frogs!" and i was like "in america they eat pigs," and they were all just totally stumped for a minute. it was funny.
