I've come home to find the power out in half of my apartment. The kitchen and bathroom are fine. The bedroom and living room are dark. The kitchen/living room split is especially interesting, given that they're the same room.

Sounds like you've got some interesting wiring vis a vis what's on what circuit. Do you have access to the breaker panel or the fuse box, depending on which you actually have?

I think the breaker panel is in my bedroom. Wouldn't you know it, the power came back on at around 10:30, just in time for me to head bed-wards.

My last apartment in California was like that. One side of the living room and the kitchen was on one circuit, while the other half of the living room was with the bedrooms and the bathroom.
