Character Name: Uchiha Sasuke
Fandom: Naruto [manga]
Gender: Male
Age: ~16 years
Sexuality (if applicable): N/A, or most decidedly not interested
Original or Anomaly?: Original
Personality: As a child, Sasuke played the role of little brother well enough. Loved his mother, wanted only to please his father, and entertained his role as Itachi’s youngest sibling with admirable skill, both adoring and striving to be just like him - if not better. Yet, with his clan’s massacre at his brother’s hands, all of that changed. Love slid right into the realm of hate, and from that moment on, he has done nothing but push himself for its sake.
This has crafted a young man who has never once forgotten where it was he has come from - one of the most prestigious clans to grace Konoha’s grounds - and over the years, this has taken root and blossomed into something quite dark indeed. From it, a haughtiness has spawned that has him bowing before no one, not even for shows of basic respect. It’s head held high in a cool show of arrogance and eyes that glitter with frigid condescension.
He’s distant and does little to dispel the image he has crafted for himself, which is namely that he is better than you. This has become more of an understood matter since he left his village, where he lets his talents speak for himself on that. In fact, there seems little of the fire-branded youth that Sasuke once was: searing smirk on his lips, ready to gloat or easily prodded into overreacting out of jealousy and a self-consuming desire to be strong enough to kill that man. Rather, in the power he has garnered since his betrayal, Sasuke has become enshrouded in cool confidence, one that at times might lead you to believe there is little left beneath it all of the boy who had once cowed his own Ego for the sake of saving his teammates.
One could say there’s something of a mystery that has come to cloak this older version. He shields his thoughts readily, giving nothing away most of the time, and if he does, it’s only when he’s pushed to his limits, and even then, those minute betrayals of reactions can be difficult to come by. He’s far more composed, more calculating even, yet manages to give a sense of honesty whenever he speaks. Perhaps it’s the seemingly unshakable confidence, or maybe he’s just learned to deal deceit as easily as he does blows. Whatever it is, Sasuke moves through his life with a certainty that no longer acknowledges any other possible options.
The only thing that has managed to temper any of this is the fact that under it all, Sasuke remains a strangely kind kid. While he rarely offers a comforting word and tends to seal all actions with a scalding pride, it doesn’t change the fact that when push comes to shove, he’s not about to leave a teammate for dead or kill unnecessarily. [Granted, as far as “the rest of the world” is concerned, he doesn’t seem to give much of a damn for the most part - unless it's Konoha, and then that, well. . .he has his thoughts on what precisely they deserve for all that his clan, his brother has suffered. And one could argue easily enough that it’s the fear of losing yet another person close to him that drives his rash actions - though, the idea that anyone is considered close to Uchiha Sasuke might take some people by surprise.]
There are glimpses of this side of him - a strangely nostalgic smile, or the thank you that winds its way out when a teammate comes to his aid - that creep out every so often. Subtle things that are rare occurrences, but let you know that not everything has been slain for the sake of revenge, that something of a heart still remains underneath all the ice.
Yet, make no mistake, he is still cold to the touch with one current objective in mind. He’s neither wholly good-gone-terribly-awry nor is he the boy-next-door, but rather he walks somewhere between the two, making his own way as he once stated he would.
Strengths: The most obvious one is his bloodline trait, the Sharingan [recently upgraded to the Mangekyou, which takes on the appearance of something like a color-reversed atomic star symbol]. The basic Sharingan allows Sasuke to do a number of things: track speed-soaked movements, memorize other jutsu, and control other beings [ala hypnotize in a sense]. The later ability was seen after the Time Jump, where Sasuke not only used the Sharingan to control Manda at the end of his fight with Deidara, but also used it to enter Naruto’s head to “greet” the resident fox demon and suppress it. Regarding the Mangekyou, the exact abilities of Sasuke’s have yet to be seen. However, he is able to call upon Amaterasu like his brother, to the point where he can now put out the “inextinguishable” black flames, and seems to have a skill similar to Tsukuyomi, which allows him to exploit “the fear” present in one’s being.
As the so-called genius of his class, Sasuke has been said to have more potential inherent in him than in his brother. As such, he learns quite easily - to the point of being boring to teach at times - and manages to not only execute most techniques picked up but to manipulate them into something more than the original [like the various uses of Chidori he has found since first learning it from Kakashi]. Hailing from a clan of fire jutsu users, he is not only adept at utilizing that element but also lightning as well and employs both with equal skill. These abilities range from breathing large fireballs to using lightning to stun his opponents.
Strong in a fight, Sasuke is extremely fast though he won’t necessarily pack the power punch that others in his world may. However, recent stats suggest that he is quite capable in most areas of the shinobi arts - taijutsu [physical skills], genjutsu [illusions] and ninjutsu [all other ninja skills requiring chakra, such as Chidori] - and he tends to use a good mix of all three when engaged in a battle. In addition to these skills, he also wields Kusanagi, his chokuto, with due proficiency along with many of the weapons of his world [kunai, various types of shuriken, wire, etc].
He’s quick thinking and can be quite single-minded [to the point of being detrimental at times]. Confident to a fault, Sasuke never lets anyone believe him incapable of a task regardless of how he may feel otherwise. He has an ironclad drive when it comes to his goals, pursuing them at whatever the cost to him to see them through.
Weaknesses: Going with the most obvious regarding his own bloodline talent, the Mangekyou Sharingan brings with it the nasty little surprise of will-be blindness. Sasuke has only just noticed this effect, with the blurring of his sight after his mission to bring in the Eight-Tails; however, it has been noted several times that this is the eventual result for those who overuse this trait.
As far as the regular Sharingan goes - though it allows the user to track high-speed movements and memorize various skills [other bloodline traits excluded], being able to keep up and copy those movements all depend upon the user. If one isn’t fast enough or strong enough, they won’t be able to pull off the moves no matter how many they manage to store in their head. The user has to be physically and mentally capable of executing each jutsu/movement learned.
Both in his fights and his dealings with others, Sasuke’s arrogance has brought him trouble time and time again. He has nearly lost his life in several instances, twice in his last fight with “Killer Bee”, and has only been saved through the efforts of his teammates, or in one case, manipulating Manda. He walks into these efforts not accounting for the possibility that he may have bitten off more than he can chew, but rather, approaches them all with the same self-assurance that dives right into haughty at times. This attitude also has this great little trick of alienating those around him [though more evident when he was younger], and one will note that he never appears to address anyone with any of the respect others often give [Kakashi was always Kakashi, Orochimaru never graced with a -sama at the end of this name].
He tends to be distant with those around him, particularly since the Time Jump, having assumed his role of leader quite comfortably. Doing what he feels he needs to do, and more often than not willing to offer a callous [though perhaps callously honest may be the term for it] word or two when his teammates feel otherwise on a matter [such as Suigetsu facing off against Kisame]. In the end, you are always left with the impression that what matters is not what you wish to gain from a situation but what he has to gain for his own goals. You can come along for the ride or not, but he’s not about to beg you to keep you at his side. It’s take it or leave it.
As far as that goes, Sasuke’s goals are as much as a driving force for improvement as they are for blinding him in a way Mangekyou couldn’t even dream of. In the end that is what it boils down to for him. After a life lived fostering hatred, he is still bound by its demands, only now it seems his aims have shifted from family to village [or simply the Council Elders, which exactly was the lie regarding his true objectives has yet to be seen]. He has turned his back on friends and normalcy, on the place he called home, has lain with traitors and learned to play at deceit quite well - he’ s managed a killer poker face in all of this - all for the sake of revenge. He’ll say one thing right to your face though harbor other intentions [one need look no further than his stint with Orochimaru, or his current situation with Madara for that matter] in the darkest corner of his heart.
