And the challenges begin...

So, as of two days ago, I've been living in Austin for two months! It's a huge change of pace and culture, of course. I love this, I like that, I don't care for this, I... I'll probably grow to hate that... But it's a new town, a new life, and I'm looking forward to a bunch of new challenges.

It's a tad terrifying. And, unfortunately, I think the third time is a bit past the "fluke" stage. Argh.

My mother had Meniere's disease. The upside of it (if you choose to view it that way) is that the episodes are temporary and that outside of them, life is entirely normal. A stressful period in her life would almost surely trigger an episode and she was unable to do anything (and I mean *anything*) aside from laying in bed, so I guess my advice would be to keep your life as balanced as possible...

The problem, though, is that they're random(ish), though. It may be manageable but... I dunno. The idea of having a random bout of being unable to perform/write/hear makes it challenging to put together any sort of life as a musician. And the life of a musician is fraught with stress.

Yeah tell me about it;) Part of me isn't all that sad that I didn't end up on stage (I can now project that in an entirely unhealthy fashion onto my son who started playing the violin 18 months (yes, I'm still counting...) ago, and who turns out to have the talent ;) ).

And it sucks, but if it really is Meniere then unfortunately an episode will always be around the corner :( I would say that, if you can, try and not worry about what you can't change. Acceptance of that fact may alleviate stress in itself.
