The weekend of fun for Zenkaikon

Mar 14, 2011 14:29

Now on to Zenkaikon this weekend. I will be there from Friday night until Sunday. Anime USA will have a table there with lots of flyers (as the rolling bag I have at home can attest to). This is our first time with an offical presence at the convention because in 2009 it was two weeks before Anime USA. We also probably won't be there until Saturday ( Read more... )

Ah, 2009. I tried going to that one, drove all the way out only to discover they had hit cap. I think the mentality of a lot of people who were turned away wasn't "well screw this" but more like "wow, it must be that good".

Hi there! Interesting take on it. A few notes:

A) Gelatine is from NYC, not Jersey: http://www.animecons.com/guests/bio.shtml/1504/Gelatine

B) I don't agree that the only reason for our growth is 'we are the only one' as you maintain. I think that even if a con is alone in its area, if it has a bad reputation, poor guests, and bad programming, it isn't going to really grow much.

C)It was not planned that we didn't have any voice actresses, but we wanted to have enough guest department staffers to handle the total number of guests that we had, so we were trying to downsize the total number of guests for this year.

If I am still awake at 1:15 AM and there isn't anything I need to do as Con Chair around the con, I will try to stop by your panel. I am sure it will be a good panel, thanks for signing up! :)

I have edited Gelatine and thank you for pointing out the error. My mistake and I will try to get a link up tonight to their website for the mistake.

I agree that you have to put together quality to be successful. I understated that, but I think it does help. It also helps that you are affordable (under $130 a night for a room including tax), good food choices a short drive away and quality.

On the Guests point, I was considering helping out. Without a license, I don't think I can. Maybe, next year I can be a guest liaison. If you want me to introduce your Guests Director to some of my liaisons for 2012, I can do so. Some of them are actually on staff for this year in other areas.

We really do need more experienced people in our guest department for 2012. I'll email you off list so you can get in touch with our Guest Head. Thanks! :)
