why do cheaper coffee establishments in new york overload beverages with sugar? is it because their clientele is supposedly lower class while gourmet coffee houses are reserved for a higher class? this is the only connection i can come up with. i remember having tea at a family friend's house with my father. as my father looked around another room ( Read more... )

they would find my internet persona to be so much....more?

Isn't that the constant about internet 'life,' though? It's impossible to represent a well-rounded individual on this thing...so we muddle along as best we can emphasizing the parts that distill down the best. ::shrugs::

Interesting rant about the coffee. They're not like that so much at home, you get to tell them how many sugars you like and then put them in yourself.

Edinburgh has very strong coffee.

well, yes, at dunkin donuts they ask how many, of course, as they do in other places like it, delis, twin donut, etc., but when you say one, it means one cup. their spoon is always huge. and even if 'half a spoon, only a little sugar please' is asked for, the result would be enough to make ice cream. starbucks on the other hand, lets you put your own sugar in. and the special coffee stores downtown which also seem to sell lots of organic and free trade products (very expensive) never put enough sugar in. there is a taboo which follows places that aren't starbucks or non-franchaises around....a friend of the family, a yuppie to the extreme, will not step into a dunkin donuts and never hides the fact she feels awkward if we do. this is weird....but true of a lot of people. sorry to anyone who ever reads this.
