All right, the China comment in retrospect is a little harsh, its just that the satellite they tested their system on was destroyed without any sideeffect except Debris.
There is a lot of junk in orbit, and it makes attempts at orbiting/leaving the planet hazardous. Its not really bad now, but where this satellite was is now debris that has to be avoided, orbiting at a certain point on the earth.
If someone were to continue and destroy the satellites(or a good portion of them), it could create hazards making leaving the atmosphere extremely hazardous.
If life was a game, each player needs to work toward the next level. Yeah, maybe a catastrophic event could require the player to grow and strive for the next level, but I wouldn't count on it. While I won't argue the China issue, I think you're missing the point. I think you did paint yourself into a corner. It's more beneficial to examine how you got to this point and how to resolve it.
I'm hoping for more than a internet memory wipe, how about a global memory wipe? Would humanity become better off with a case of amnesia? That a second chance could be had for all?
