actually awake for once

Everyone is making a big deal about this...yule thing. What's yule? Is it something good to eat? Shouta is asking me about gifts...Am I supposed to give gifts too? If so...I need to give one to Jackal and to Mom and Dad...and to Shouta and Kin and to my big brother too. But I don't even know how or where or anything. And I'm still so sleepy. I fell ( Read more... )

Yule's the time of year that folks get together to celebrate an' be thankful for the good year an' harvest that's gone by. ...Or 'least, that's how I've always figured it an' been told. An' yeah, presents are exchanged sometimes durin' it. My folks didn't always do it, we were more into just spendin' time together. But folks here in the capital seem to be big on the gift-givin'. But ya could always just make stuff for folks~ I know that's what I'm doin'~

I...never got to celebrate. This is the first year anyone's even wanted me around.

Make stuff? Maybe I could try that. Don't know what I could make. I'm not really good at anything.

Then make it a real awesome one to r'member, bro~

Ya don't know that for sure 'til ya try at things, Aka-yan~ I know I didn't think I'd be good at much 'til I started workin' on contraptions with Dai-chan, but I love workin' on that kinda stuff now~ Just try different ideas an' see what happens. Maybe you'll figure somethin' that's lotsa fun to ya an' ya wanna keep doin' it~ But either way, 'long as ya put yer heart into what yer doin', real friends'll love whatever ya give 'em. True facts, man~

I'm going to try, for as long as I'm awake!

Really? I've only really been good at anything. But maybe I'll start tryign things and I'll find something I am good at. And if all else fails, I'll just draw them something.

The 'potato trick'? Inquiring minds want to know.

It's something my dad told me about. Genichirou said that I can heat up a potato and stick it in my pocket and the heat would keep me warm. Plus when I got hungry, I would have a potato already there and ready to eat. Well, it works for the most part.

In the mountains it's not uncommon for people to put bricks in the embers and then take them out, wrap them in cloth and take them to bed to keep warm. Admittedly you can't eat them and it would be cumbersome to carry about, but a stone heats hotter than a potato, and the heat lasts longer.

A stone? First I heard about that...I guess I'll try it. Anything that'll keep me warm and awake longer.

You really shouldn't make such a big deal out of the gift giving thing. I really don't care if I'm given anything as that's not really what the holiday is supposed to be about. You're just supposed to celebrate and reflect upon what you've been through this year, be thankful for those around you, and eat a ton of shit that's been stored up. ...And get drunk also, for those of us who want to. Focus more on doing all of that instead.

It's not? Everyone seems to be talking about that stuff though. I like yours though. Specially the eating stuff part.

It's the capital. So I'm sure such superficial things matter more around here. Yule was always just a celebration with friends and family for me though. And we ate a lot during it. So focus more on the sharing of food than anything else. Maybe learn how to cook and make something for others that way if you're really set on giving things.
