spent american thanksgiving in texas. i had lots of fun, though it really was different down there. i was also highly aware of the fact that i am not white. but i'm probably just ultra-sensitive because of my shyness in the first place. we went to an african safari, which was great! not as big as african lion safari in ontario, but i did get to ( Read more... )

I'm so going to Texas to study chimps in the summer! Whhooooo! I've never been to Texas before but I have high hopes of eating steak/ribs every day and riding horses and going to the rodeo.... what else is there to do in Texas??????

I am current at mining/geology conference in Saskatoon, and I am VERY conscious of the fact that I am:

1) Female
2) Under 50
3) (kind of) an ethnic minority

The fact that I don't know anyone makes the whole thing very awkward too. One of our clients (white, male, 60-ish like everyone else) took me around to meet a few of the younger female geologists that he knew (all...2 of them), so I could talk to some people my own age, instead of people older than my parents...
