[Sigh. Men.] Give her back to Sakura. You look like you are about to faint.

[ Ame has good advice. He tries to hand the child back over to Sakura, but the shift seems to stir it into crying, which freaks out Naruto.

"Hey! It's crying! Don't cry, little gu---girl!"

Naruto leans in, and if there is an effect, it's to get Sakura to pull him back and tell him to stop being an idiot. She then firmly pushes Sasuke's arms back to him, shifting him as well as the newborn to show him how to properly hold the child.

"Just a little longer, Sasuke. She's going to go back to her mother again in a moment anyway." All those good intentions, but that sends Sasuke looking at Ame with a quizzical "it didn't work" expression. ]

[Riku will have something to say.

...in a few minutes.

because at the moment, he honestly can't believe what he's seeing. of all the things Sasuke could be afraid of, this was the last one Riku would have ever expected]

Sasuke...?

[ His response is delayed, by a lot. When he finally looks up from the infant, he has the most lost expression, though it shifts into blankness as he's prone to doing.

He's not ever getting through this one. ]

[Riku doesn't know a damn thing about children, unfortunately.

but he thinks he knows Sasuke. at least a little. he owes him, anyway] You look a little paler than usual. I think you'd better sit down.

[ Sound advice. This is about the most docile he's ever been, that he takes it without comment. Sakura and Naruto sit down on either side of him, and he's still just failing to be alright with this. ]

You are most afraid...

[he buries his face in his hands]

[ Sasuke's response is delayed, like it's been for everyone so far. When he does talk, it's quiet and flat. ]

...Shut up. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Yeah, why don't you go in my room and get your face turned into fucking ground meat. Wuss.

[A blink. The unexpected it would seem, and never have the differences between them felt so chasmdeep. Forsaken such a route, perhaps, but to fear it?

That Sasuke may have been robbed of his breath, but this one? Simply of his words.

And interesting lesson learned about what might have been had he chosen something else. Maybe that's the real horror in all of this.]
