I'm back to the "I'm alive!" posts it seems. Also did lj change again. It took me maybe 5 attempts to post this thing.
Update:
The company I worked for went bankrupt and I became unemployed.
My friend and I are doing the job search boogie right now but it's becoming disheartening due to (a) still not knowing how to drive due to years of living in places like nyc with awesome public transportation which I am sorely regretting now and (b) no one wanting to train people anymore which leads to me looking at job listings and realizing I'm missing skills.
Debating about scrounging up the money to go back to school AND finally learning to drive.
Held back by... having forgotten all my math despite being pretty decent at it back in the day and unfortunately it's a prerequisite. Also inability to remember my driver's manual despite knowing the information.
Someone give me a brain with working memory unit. Cramming now, so much cramming.
Also thank you Republicans for slashing benefits. Also thank you for constantly calling people like me lazy, useless people, despite having worked my ass off to not end up here.
No really, you guys are the best.
I'm also looking at all these digital archive jobs (scanning and file jobs, not library archivist - those need degrees) at various book companies and museums and stuff and laughing bitterly because content management was one of my duties, but since I don't have a librarian degree or have never used their specific content management tool, the taleo algorithm will probably put my resume into the void somewhere. These systems are basically naming and tagging functions, with creations of subtrees/folders oh sorry METADATA. It's nothing you can't do manually with a good search function let alone maybe a day or two to learn the program/system being used. Can I operate a scanner? Yesss. Can I drag/drop images into a program and sort/tag them and rename everything so every department can access via search in a consistent manner? Yessss. Will I get a chance at the job if I ask for minimal training? Nooo.
