AO turned 7 months old a few days ago. I'd say "time flies" but I stayed home and watched him all day yesterday (the babysitter had a thing) and I could not wish him to age fast enough. No doubt there are people warning me in the stands that things will only get more difficult as he become more mobile. The way I see it though, is the sooner he can ( Read more... )

I turned 36 today.

On the docket today was taking AO to the babysitters, then eating some okonomiyaki and ice cream with the wife. Five hours without a baby seems a bit silly as a present, but it has been a thankful break from yesterday's 8-hour solo experience.

I am back at work and could not be any more relieved.

It is difficult to imagine that it has been four weeks of paternity leave. Difficult to imagine because all of that time melted together into a slurry of non-productive time spent existing and keeping a baby alive. It's a little bit more than halfway really, but I'm about in the middle of my own FMLA leave watching my son at home. Jess returned to work, but unfortunately gets stuck with the baby at night, because he only sleeps attached to a human, and I am not to be trusted while in my coma-like slumber ( Read more... )

Oh god, the rage.

I would like to think Jess and I entered into this reproductive endeavor understanding the consequences of our actions, but sometimes I wonder what the hell I was thinking. Did I want children? Yes. Did I want an infant, specifically? Not really.

Things have been going well.

AO is just over two weeks old now, having been born at 32 weeks. He is on a healthy progression path, getting off the CPAP within a few days, hitting 4 lbs on Monday, and bottle-feeding most of the time. Sometimes he gets lazy or sleepy mid-feeding though, so he'll have to buck up and perform for 48 hours in a row ( Read more... )

It's difficult to put into words how good I have it.

Just had my yearly review here at the Job. My coworkers had their own reviews a few days ago, and the news was bad. Some shockingly so. Hearing them describe it reminded me of my own struggles back when I first joined nearly a decade ago. Similar situation too: one-on-one meetings were all good ( Read more... )

Jess and the nugget are doing fine thus far, 31 weeks and counting. She recently got a private room, so there is more room for activities.
