I spent Friday night and this morning watching the new season of The Dragon Prince and working on the knit Dragon I'm making my niece for Christmas. I've got the main body of the Dragon done and thoughts on the show. Overall, it was an enjoyable way to spend 4.5 hours, but it was no Avatar. The good, the bad, and the wtf below.

The Ezran the king arc. His determination to be a good king and sacrifice himself for peace was pretty darn moving. His speech where he realized he didn't have to be like his dad to be a good king nearly had me tearing up. I could have watched a whole season of the heavy is the crown drama and felt the political maneuvering to get rid of him happened way too fast.
Marcos's fuck you I won't fight your bullshit war expression when he threw down his sword.
Soren's character arc. Aaron has a thing, it seems, for son's abandoning their evil dads in favor of doing the right thing. The fact he was willing to kill Viren was like what!!!!!!
Actually, everyone 's arc, and by everyone I mean Soren, Claudia, Ezran, Viren, and Rayla, felt satisfying and in keeping with everything that came before. Callum's arc of falling for Rayla was foreshadowed from the get go and this felt pretty organic, but he really didn't grow the way he did in previous seasons.
I heard a rumor that this will be the last season and, as a series finale I think it worked. They fulfilled the first season goals, but there were still enough dangling plot threads and ominous
portents to keep fic writers happy.
The Bad:
The pacing. Always the pacing. Every single season of this show has felt too packed with plot and poorly developed side characters and this was no exception. People bash "filler" episodes, but there's something to be said for slowing things down and letting things breath.
The jarring juxtaposition of the serious and the silly. The mood whiplash was especially bad in the episode where Ezran was struggling to be a long while Rayla was introducing his brother to fart flowers.
All the culture reference jokes in the desert episode. Boomerang. Here's the wonderwall. Why did it have to be snakes. ::sigh::
The WTF:
Remember the baker Ezran stole jelly tarts from in episode 1? Well, he's back and a friend now! Also jelly tarts are now a running gag. How fun.
Amaya goes from being a tortured pow to bffs/ potential girlfriends with her captor in no time flat. It's just one of the many, many bits that felt like the writers were catering to fan internet wishlists without putting in the work to make it believable instead of just hot.
