You are ahead by a century

Today is my birthday. I spent it in a pleasantly low key way.

Last night and today I marathoned the latest season of Anne With An E. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I did spend the first half of the season crying though. One of the characters, Mary, gets sepsis and dies. There's an entire episode where she gets diagnosed and then she and her loved ones have to come to terms with her inevitable death. That would have been bad enough, but that's how my Dad died. After we ran out of antibiotics to try, it was that same horrible, helpless waiting, so yeah, lots of emotions brought up. By contrast, the back half of the season was fairly light with relationship drama and miscommunication. There was a subplot involving Indian boarding schools too, but it was the only one without a happy ending.

In the evening, I had dinner with friends at the local Indian restaurant. My friends are babies when it comes to spice, but we found stuff they could eat. I really love the local place. Not only is the food good, the owners have the habit of throwing things in on the house. Tonight, we got free pakoras and kheer. I am so very full right now.
