So here I am.

I haven't posted in a while.  I don't have much to say.

Valentine's Day was great; I'm so lucky to be marrying the man who is way more than I'd ever dreamed one man could be.

I don't have much else to update about my life, but I do have a general complaint.

I'm not in high school any more.  I'm not even in college.  And the day I ( Read more... )

Hey, you know me. I celebrate Christmas, Easter, Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice, St. Patty's Day...anything that gives me an excuse to party. :-)

Also, the last paragraph of your comment: I agree with this. But it isn't just on national television. People run into folks like that in their every day lives. I honestly think the occasional God Warrior on TV wouldn't turn people off to God if they weren't sitting there thinking, "Oh my goodness...that person is just like *insert name of person here*." The problem is, those people have a choice to make in their faith as well: they can be dominating and pushy (as the God Warrior was), or they can choose to live by example and use tactics that might actually work. It's like sales, if you think about it. Mostly, the choose a hard sell, and it doesn't work. Just like in business, it makes people uncomfortable, until eventually they just stop answering the door when you come over and hide from you when they see you around.

I've always felt the same way about religion--my personal view is that the separate religions are all the Divine Power's way of reaching different people. It's humanity, not God, who has turned religion into a major battleground. According to all the major ideologies, the most important thing is to be kind and helpful to your fellow humans.

The only time I have serious problems with Christianity is when they try making their belief system into legislation that I have to follow, or when they're totally intolerant of those around them who practice religion differently.

I'd have to say I partially disagree with you. There's nothing wrong with legislation based on religion...IF IT MAKES SENSE. Don't kill people. Yeah, ok. Don't take other people's stuff. Sure. I know those things aren't your point though. You're talking about the heavy issues like abortion and gay marriage, right?

Exactly. There comes a point, I think, when you have to step back and say "Okay, I feel this way about this particular issue, but I can't legislate my belief about it on others. I will have to leave other people's moral position up to them." For example, while I personally am pro-choice, I can understand why other people would be pro-life, and I wouldn't ask them to change their opinion--if the situation comes up for them, I would never try to dissuade them from carrying the baby. I just feel as though I should have the option to terminate (I'd like to clarify and say I DON'T believe in third-trimester abortions, though) if that jives with my moral belief. On the other hand, there's gay marriage--I don't understand how allowing a group of people to have the rights that everyone else has can hurt anyone. If you don't believe in gay marriage...don't marry a gay person. The idea that somehow allowing people who love each other to make a commitment to each other in the eyes of the law and their community will ruin the "family in America" ( ... )

My personal issue with gay marriage is that marriage was created by God for man and woman to procreate. I have no problem with civil unions, which give gays the legal rights a spouse regularly has, but homosexual "marriage" doesn't belong in the church. If it's about the rights, really, then a civil union achieves the same goal without any religious implications.
