It's a musical that opened on B'way in Oct. of last year, based on a book called 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'. I seem to remember when the book came out (in '96). thinking, "cool, it's about someone heard the other side " I may be projecting that onto hearing about it last fall, but I'm pretty sure I'd seen the book a while ago. It's about the WW and Glinda and their youth, how they knew each other, how "evil" came about and all that...it takes place mostly before Dorothy arrives in Oz.
The music is terrific, but it's especially the 2 leads--Idina Menzel (previously in 'Rent') and Kristin Chenowith (previously a Tony-winner for 'You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown' (and in the Disney produced 'Annie' that was on tv a couple of years ago) that stand out. And the story is just cool, I think. The library has the book, though it's checked out now. The show is nominated for 10 Tonys!
