I wish I could do this as a poll, but since I can't...

Please fill in the blanks following this paradigm:

A. He's late, isn't he? B. No, he isn't.

1. A. They're late, ______ _____? B. No, ____ ____.

2. A. We're late, ______ _____? B. No, ____ ____.

3. A. You're late, ______ _____? B. No, ____ ____.

4. A. I'm late, ______ _____? B ( Read more... )

Not sure what the purpose is but okay, I'll try

1. They're late, aren't they? No, they're not.
2. We're late, aren't we? No, we're not.
3. You're late, aren't you? No, you're not.
4. I'm late, aren't I? No, I'm not.

How did I do?

Okay. I'll be honest about this.

1. They're late, ain't they? No, they ain't.
2. We're late, ain't we? No, we ain't.
3. You're late, ain't dja? No, djaren't.
4. I'm late, aint's I? No, I ain't.

So what was the purpose of this anyway?

djaren't!! Hopefully people won't read this until they post themselves...

The purpose was to see what people did with the I. Did they follow the pattern and do something like aren't/ain't I? Or did they go with "am I not?" And did they notice that they switched from "aren't I" to "I'm not" (I are/I am) if they chose "aren't" in the first place.

One thing that I couldn't tell was whether 'A' and 'B' were supposed to be different people or not. It seems that at least some of your other commenterss assumed they were different people. I did not, I actually mulled it over for a while before responding. Did I choose the wrong answer? I'm greatly worried about this for some stupid reason.

Don't ask me! I put both of those in (I/you) because I thought some would go the one way, and others the other. :)
