Hypothetical question.

Okay, imagine for a moment that you've just been hired to write an X-Men title, and you get to bring Jean back to life ( Read more... )

I've thought about this, actually. I was saving it for my glorious debut as comic book writer, but shit-that's not likely to happen.

I would not let her go back to the X-Men, for one. As the Phoenix, she's too powerful. I'd put her in with the cosmic pantheon. I'd give her her own book-wait for it-Phoenix (Inc)orps. (or something like that)-in which she runs the Phoenix Corps like a business. I've got much more plotted, but I'll stop here just in case Marvel calls and wants the skinny.

Oh, and she'd eventually end up with Logan.

Huh, I like that. I tend to pretend that the Phoenix isn't a cosmic entity, but rather the culmination of Jean's own powers (IIRC, this was the original plan until Jim Shooter intervened), so I wouldn't have even thought about that.

Zooming back to X-Men Forever #1 for a minute, I'm intrigued that Claremont is bringing her Phoenix powers back. I wonder where he's going to go with it.

I don't know. My first thought is that he's planning on repeating the Dark Phoenix Saga but with Logan instead of Scott, which would be one kickass "What If", but I think that might be wishful thinking.

Honestly, I can't begin to guess what Claremont's planning. Because the problem (IMO) with the Phoenix is that a) you can't just let it sit there, it's got to grow, and b) when it does grow, it becomes too powerful to keep on Earth. That's why they keep killing Jean off.

However, if you put her in the cosmos with beings proportionate to her powers and there's no need to keep trying to contain her with this death-resurrection cycle (and yes, I realize that's what a phoenix is, but I hate losing my favorite character). Plus, I'd totally like Beta Ray Bill to make frequent guest appearances.

I would let her be on her own for a while, maybe back on the x-men and eventually getting closer to Logan and ending up with him :)

I'd put her in the cosmic books for a short while, then put her in the greater MU (and not the X-books for sometime)... and of course, she'd end up with Logan too. ;]
