Jared woke up feeling suspicious.

First off, Jensen isn't laying like a sack of potatoes next to him, dead to the world and way too at peace to be disturbed. That in and of itself is slightly disturbing; the note on the nightstand is even more so.

Jay,

Went golfing with Tom and Mike. I'll be back late.
Take a shower, put on your favorite clothes, and go grab a coffee at our spot.

Love,

Jensen.

Raising an eyebrow before narrowing his eyes, Jared looks around, trying to figure out if this is the start to one big prank and whether or not he can spot Ashton Kutcher behind the Ficus in the corner of their bedroom. Fucker's too tall for that, so no prank then. He feels some relief at that, because the last thing he wants is that douche in his bedroom when he's got nothing on under the sheets.

This is how Jared's brain works first thing in the morning, and he can't help but smile at the thought that Jensen's given him the 'what the hell is wrong with you?' more than once when he's voiced his brains discombobulated ideas first thing in the morning.

Shrugging to no one in particular, he gets up and pads naked to their awesome walk-in shower, beginning to hum some song that'd been on repeat on the radio the day before.

Jared sings into the back scrubber as the notes float over the sound of the water, the radio blasting the upbeat tune. Doing as was asked, he cleans up, styles up, and moves to his closet to grab his favorite shirt and jeans, pairing the blue and tan plaid with dark brown boots. Rolling up the sleeves and grabbing his aviators are the last steps before Jared heading out to his truck to indulge in one of their favorite Saturday morning rituals.

After his run with the dogs, Jared will do exactly as he's been doing this morning; the only difference is that he's usually doing it with Jensen and by this time-driving to Starbucks-the truck will be filled with laughter as the two are finally awake enough to exchange their usual affectionate insults.

Jared tries not to mind that Jensen's gone and skipped out on one of Jared's favorite things to do with him, tries to remember that Mike and Tom aren't usually available to hang out at the same time, and that he can have Jensen all to himself later that night. It actually starts to work as he steps into the small shop.

Marina, their usual barrista, doesn't look a bit confused as she starts up his order, pointedly not making one for Jensen.

“How's it going, Jay?” She asks with a sweet smile as she foams up the milk just how he likes it.

“Good. Did Jen stop in earlier?” He answers her, still wondering why his boyfriend had bothered to leave a note; usually, when one of them isn't where they're supposed to be, they just leave a text or a voice mail to the other.

“Nope. Haven't seen him since last week.” Marina replies, handing over his coffee along with a small white envelope.

“What's this?” Jared questions, feeling a little frustrated when all she does is shrug and giggle conspiratorially, Marina going back to work without even bothering to ring up his coffee.

“Hey, Marina? You forgot to ring me up.” He adds, looking between her and the debit machine.

“It's on the house today, Jay.” She answers simply, giving him a wink.

“What the hell?” He mumbles to himself as he turns away from the counter, stopping by the sugar to open the envelope.

Jay,

So by now, Marina's probably in the back, laughing her ass off at your adorable face. Ignore it. Remember the first time we came here on a date? How we laughed at your foam 'stache, and the fact that I'm not even competent with their little stirring sticks? Yeah, think of that night and ignore her giggling.
Go to Dog-Eared and find my favorite book. And don't forget to say hi to Arlene for me.

Love you,

Jensen

Arlene is a thirty-something transgender with a beehive to rival the best of them on show nights and some of the sleekest, prettiest real hair he's seen on a girl in ages. She's so pretty she makes him jealous some days.

She practically squeals the minute he's in the door.

“JARED!!!” She's running towards him and Jared barely has time to set his coffee down on the nearest book before she's got him wrapped up in a hug.

It's not that Arlene is a cold person, but usually her affection is shown off in the most sleek of ways; double air kisses, shoulder-squeeze hugs, and the occasional fist bump. She's channelling a teenybopper today though, and it's got Jared even more confused.

“So good to see you!”

“Uh...good to see you too, hon? Did they put speed in your coffee or something?” He gets a rather hard smack on the shoulder for that one.

“You ass, go get a book. Lord knows I don't touch that stuff. It's cocaine or bust, darling.” It's a joke and Jared feels himself smiling even as he starts to move down the creaking hardwood towards the fiction section. Arlene hasn't done a more than smoke a little pot so long as he's known her, and is usually DD on nights out with her girls.

Jared ducks under the signs for LP's, vintage Playboy magazines, and old monster movies and finally hits the 'R' section of fiction, zooming in on the book almost before he realizes it.

Just as he pulls the book off the shelf, another white envelope nearly falls to the floor, Jared catching it at the last moment.

Jay,

Thank you for introducing me to this book. Every year I read it, it means something deeper to me, and I hope you never forget the afternoon we spent reading our own copies out in the backyard, not saying a word, just enjoying each other's company. It's one of the times that I'll never forget, because I fell in love with you even more with each page I read.

Go to Melvin's and get your usual. You must be starving.

Love,

Jensen

Melvin's giggling almost as much as Marina had been. Jared actually doesn't mind.

“The usual, Jay?”

“Yeah, and the envelope while you're at it.” Jared says flatly, smirking after to let the diner owner know he's not mad.

“I don't know what you're all up to, but it's cute.” He comments as he takes a seat at the counter, eyeing the key lime pie like it's going to be the death of him; he loves the stuff and its fresh and calling out to him.

Jared shouldn't be surprised when Melvin sets down his usual plate of home-cooked goodness with a nice thick slice of the stuff on the side, but he beams a smile at the older man, who just makes a face as though he's saying, 'don't worry about it, kid'.

“Have I ever told you I love you, gramps?” Jared grins, shaking his head as he digs in, Melvin laughing warmly as he goes back to making huge a plate of breakfast, even though it's lunch.

Jared eats in silence, remembering full well the night he and Jensen found this diner completely by accident. The rain had started to sheet down outside as it was want to do in the spring and he and Jensen had run for cover into the nearest open place. Melvin's turned out to be the final cherry on the top of a perfect date.

This envelope is the same as all the others and Jared makes a difficult decision to wait and open it when he gets finished eating. The first plate gone, he figures dessert doesn't count as an integral part of the main courses and grabs for it with more than a little excitement.

Jay,

Enjoying the pie? I had Melvin make it up special for you today.
Just two more stops, babe, and then you'll be home and we'll spend the night hanging out in the pool, looking at the stars.

Head to Michael's to grab your favorite flick. And don't forget the popcorn. The first night we went there, most of it ended up down my shirt.

Love,

Jensen

Jared laughs out loud at the memory, head tilted back as he remembers the night they thought it would be a good idea to grab the little baggies of popcorn that were free to every person that walked through the door of the Jumbo Video in town. Jared had started a popcorn fight and Jensen had ended up with two mounds of popcorn right where his chest was normally flat. Thankfully, his boyfriend had been wearing an old shirt and the grease wasn't a big deal as he was only going to be wearing it for painting and maintenance jobs around the house, from then on.

Still chuckling softly, he sets the note in with the others and digs into his pie.

Michael has owned the video store since he was 21 and it was passed on from his dad. While it's completely independent, it has a bigger draw than Blockbuster's or Rogers because it has a vastly greater selection of hard-to-find movies; indie, international, cult classics. Jared's like a kid in a candy store any time he stops by (which is normally once a week).

"Bro, what's up!" Michael calls out as the bell rings, Jared flashing him a big smile and extending a hand over the counter to give his hand a slap.

"I heard you've got a note for me." At the comment, Mike just nods, pointing towards the indie section. Jared nearly bounces as he makes his way over, going through the alphabet in his head until he gets to W and a movie with Ed Harris, Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrel called Winter Passing. He watched it the first time on the tail end of a date with Jensen and he's never forgotten it since. Mike was going to sell his last copy until Jared talked him into keeping it, and so far, his friend's held up his promise to never remove it from his shelf.

Grabbing the movie, he pops open the box and grins so hard it looks like it hurts when he finds the note inside.

Jay,

Mike and I know how much you love this movie, so we came to a little agreement, and now it's yours. Mike'll give you the real cover up at the counter and then you can head over to your last destination before heading home.

The LCBO up the block has our favorite wine--and the Tequila you got so wasted on after Sandy dropped off all your stuff. THAT was not a fun night, but it ended better than it started.
Pick up a bottle and anything else you might want on the way home.
I can't wait to see you, and I have some very important news to share.

Love you more than anything,

Jensen.

To say he's excited to go home is the understatement of the year.

Jared heads to the liqour store and can't help but start humming another song he'd heard on the radio earlier on his drive in. It's a completely different genre than the first, but no less catchy. Moving through the aisles, he finds the Argentinian wines and picks out his and Jensen's favorite red, the kind they usually pair with some of their more 'comfort food' type meals. It's just as good on a cool summer night with a few fingers foods, and Jared can't wait to dive into their pool and just spend time with his boyfriend.

He takes the scenic route home, only so that he can relax a little and prepare himself for whatever news Jensen wants to deliver. Whatever it is, it can't be bad, otherwise this whole day would have gone much, much differently. Or so he hopes. Momentary panic seeps through him and Jared has to stop into one of the little parking lots along the tree-lined route and fish out his phone to call Jensen.

"Hey, babe." He answers calmly, a smile in his voice.

"It's nothing bad, right? You're not dying of cancer and pulling some Sweet November shit on me, are you?"

Jensen just laughs warmly, finding it all very amusing.

"Not dying. Not fired. Nothing bad, Jay. Just get home."

"Okay, love you."

"Love you too."

He sighs, letting out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.

The rest of the ride goes without panic and by the time Jared pulls into their garage, the stars are out.

"Jen? I'm home?"

Now this is curious. The entire house is dark. No kitchen light, no tv, no stereo. In fact, the only source comes from the full moon that's shining through the deck doors.
Quirking his head to the side, Jared steps in, keeping one hand on the wall as he moved into the kitchen to set the notes, the movie and the wine down.

It's then that he sees it. A little path outlined on their hardwood; tea lights marking the way to the door. His heart flies up into his mouth and for a moment, Jared lets himself hope that it is what he thinks it is. The thought is quickly brushed aside however, because they're still filming, they're too busy, and the timing to come out to the rest of the world isn't right. Coming out to their families had been interesting--and stressful--enough.

Jared took the lit path down, his smile growing as Jensen came into view, wearing gunmetal slacks and Jared's favorite black button down. Clean shaven and looking fresh out of the shower, his boyfriend couldn't look better to Jared if he tried.

"Hey you." Jared grinned, looking around and realizing that the backyard had been transformed to something closer to the little Italian bistros they'd frequented on their vacation than their usual sports-and-beer fest.

"What's all this?" He asked, head still cocked to the side like he was Harley or Sadie waiting for food.

Jensen reaches his hand out, inviting Jared to come closer to the back of their yard, a smile gracing his features, highlighted by the moon. Jared feels even more confusion when Jensen doesn't answer but instead turns his back to Jared for a moment, fussing with something that had previously been hidden in his hand.

Jared doesn't gasp. Doesn't laugh like crazy, doesn't run away. He just smile like someone just bought him a Ferrari for his birthday.

"We've been together three years now, and they've been the best three years of my life. Every morning I wake up and see you and I fall even more in love. You've brought a joy to my life that I didn't even realize was missing until I saw it in you. You remind me that it's okay to have fun even while working, and that every day is something to smile about. You've shown me unconditional love, even when you didn't have to. You've put up with my quirks, my insecurities, my occasional rants. You make the best damn coffee in the world and I don't know what I would do without you in my life. I want forever with you, Jared. I want to be with you until the end. Will you give me forever, and marry me?"

Tears stream shamelessly down both their faces as Jared nods and lets out a little choked out sound that passes for a yes. Jensen slips the platinum band onto his finger before standing back up and crushing him into the deepest kiss and tightest hug imaginable.

"I love you more than anything." Jared whispers when they finally come up for breath. "And I will gladly spend the rest of my life with you."

From the other side of the fence, all the people Jared has spoken to throughout the day, along with more of their friends--and even some of their family--all let out a cheer so loud, it startles the birds and send them flying to the stars.
