It's inevitable. At this point, it's nothing but a public uphill battle. If I know Dannyboy, he'll want to appeal this decision, which, honestly, only lends itself to further public criticism and embarrassment.
It's going to happen. I've embraced that fact. At this point all I can hope for is that we don't change it to something really stupid, like the Hogs or the Washington Monuments. It's my understanding that Dan Snyder already has rights to the Washington Warriors trademark. I'd put money on that being the next move, but I wonder if it would have the same problems (albeit less egregious).
I agree. It's inevitable...it's tradition but The Warriors isn't the worst thing, I suppose. I just feel like in 2050 we won't even be able to use hair color to describe someone. If the name was created to put down Native Americans, I'd understand but it was chosen to honor a Native American whose tribes name was "The Redskins", once translated.
I agree...I don't see how we could ever change the song. :/
I kind of had the same opinion as everyone else until I read the full history of the term. It not only was created by Native Americans but like you said, was a term of endearment for the team that 80 years ago no one had a problem with. For it to be totally unacceptable a century after it was obsolete as a slur seems beyond silly.
I am fairly sure I have heard every kind of racial slur in my lifetime said in a derogatory way except the word redskin.

I'll never stop singing our song though. HAIL.
