Holidays
I'm off on holiday tomorrow (well today as it's well beyond midnight now) for about three weeks, most of it in Devon. Hopefully my internet connection will work ok, but who knows? Boo
I'm enjoying the Tour de France this year, even though it already seems to be a two horse race, having Mark Cavendish as a contender for the sprint finishes is making those stages so much more interesting than I used to find them. The tv coverage is doing a good job of explaining the build up to the finishes - which team is doing what, who's in a ( Read more... ) -
The news
At times I am puzzled by what makes the national news, what makes one item make the national news bulletins and another similar news story not get a mention? Today local news reported a shooting very close to where I used to live and I have seen details on the national ceefax pages, but other killings in the area have not made it past the local ( Read more... ) -
Memory like a sieve
I meant to add in my last post that I went to see the Searle exhibition at the Cartoon Museum, the main draw for me being the inclusion of drawings made whilst he was a POW of the Japanese in WWII. I would've loved to have seen more of them, they are stunning and very emotional, but I realise that wasn't possible in an exhibition covering his ( Read more... ) -

When I mentioned that the Coal Hole was an old drinking haunt of mine I'd forgotten that in the same book Bill talks about eating lardy cakes when in Aldbourne. I have fond memories of those too, only not so hazy. Nearing the end of the Bill and Babe book and was delighted to see them mention going drinking in the Coal Hole in London. I have many memories of that pub, some of them rather hazy. -
Feeling virtuous
In the last couple of days I have managed to go into a bookshop and come out with only the stamps I went in for AND order some books off Amazon for family birthdays without ordering any for myself. So, I'm feeling good ( Read more... ) -

Well, only for a bit maybe. I finished the Utah beach book and have now moved onto Bill and Babe's book which I am going through quite quickly. So feeling pleased with my progress I returned to the library with a view to staying clear of the history section for once. I did manage this and came out with two novels.
