I am selling off one of my fancier Elizabethan gowns AND the undergarments and accoutrements - smock, drawers, stays, farthingale, partlet and ruffs. Everything but shoes and stockings:

my Picasa album. It's up for auction on eBay:
http://tinyurl.com/Gown-for-sale(Item #290348400953) It's up for a long time, 10 days, to give it plenty of time for people to become aware that it's up there.
I could really use some help with this in generating some word of mouth buzz.
* If you think you know someone who'd be interested, please let them know about it
* If you think there might be people on your Friends list who might be interest, could you perhaps mention it in your blog? Or perhaps Friends-of-Friends?
* If you could make a post letting people know about it to any pertinent email lists you are on, that would be great, especially if you are in a different geographical area than I am.
It really is very well made, though there are a few carefully disguised mends here and there. I didn't get a chance to iron the overgown before photographing it, sadly, but the pictures are otherwise pretty accurate. I think it's probably a bit more Renn Faire than SCA, mostly because it's so synthetic and shiny. The mirror satin is very eye-catching but not particularly accurate for the 16th century. Satins were duller during that period; "mirror" satins came in during the 17th c., AFAIK. But at least it's not lavender or day-glo pink. :-)
I've got a partner in this enterprise:
spikywheel has been storing it for me and will be shipping it out when it sells. She's a professional costumer and tailor (Masters, UNC-CH, opera, ballet, and re-enactment: see
www.tailormadegarments.com) and has had a lot of experience in packing and shipping outfits of this type. She can also do any last minute mending or adjustments that might be needed. Oh, and BTW, the stockings that I didn't include with the gown? You can get some very nice period linen or wool ones from her...many different colors to choose from...
Thanks for any help you can give. Proceeds will help put a chronically cash-shy accounting student through school (me) and also help a self-employed craftswoman, mother, and military wife (
spikywheel).
