-I have absolutely no idea why, but I was in bed and asleep by 8:45 last night. I guess the Pacific time jet lag, Fall Back, busy weekend, and return to my workout routine was all a little too much for my poor system. As suspected, I was awake from 12:45 - 2am, but that still meant I got about nine, nine-and-a-half hours of sleep. Sheesh ( Read more... )

It's not the radiation that's my concern with those things. It's the invasion of privacy. Even if for myself it's not a concern, it's still something that I can't condone and don't want to participate in.

That smokestack video was straight out of an episode of Square One:

OOPS WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY ERASERS! DON'T MAKE A MISTAKE WITHOUT ONE!

Yeah, I'm really strongly disliking the arguments I'm seeing on the "chill out, it's just dicks" side. Every time I see, "I'll do the scanners, because I don't care who sees me naked," I cringe. Because it's not about what one person is comfortable with. If you're* comfortable with people seeing you naked (which, without any appeal to principles, I don't care either), that's great. For you, the choice is straightforward, or at least not agonizing: thing you are ok with (porn-o-vision), vs. thing you may or may not be ok with (the grope-down ( ... )

I'm not an expert at all on this sort of thing, however, I ran into an open letter about safety issues a while back. The arguments do make sense to me, but ... I'm not an expert. : )

Letter here - see page 2

In brief, the scientists mention that with the safety calculations are done using the assumption that the radiation is evenly distributed across your entire body. However, they point out that with this sort of X-ray, the majority of the dose goes to your skin and nearby tissue; and that dose may not be safe.

I really don't like the privacy issues, but I don't think we should ignore the safety questions just yet, at least, not without more testing.

My vociferous reply: Let's keep the argument where it should fucking start and end. It's my body, and I don't want these fucking idiots looking at me naked or groping me. TSA has not ever, not even once, stopped terrorists. All they do is annoy, harass, and violate American citizens.

Oh forget trains, I've seen the TSA setting up shit at the goddamn BUS STATION in Downtown Orlando.

Because we all know the terrorists are going to bring us all down by destroying the underfunded, unpleasant public transit system.
