My 2c on the TSA

If given the option between the backscatter scan and the enhanced patdown, I'll take the scan. I'm willing to subject myself to the continually-argued-to-be-safe level of radiation, and I'm willing to have my naked image saved on a hard drive somewhere in perpetuity. I'm really not thrilled at the thought of a stranger touching me while I'm trying ( Read more... )

The scan is very quick. I'd say it took less than 30 seconds.

If it's just me, I'm with you. Don't care so much about the radiation, as my gestating days are over and weird electronic nude photos of me don't much worry me.

But, my days of letting my daughter fly are done, until they come up with something less intrusive or she is an adult and able to make that choice herself. Again, not so worried about the radiation but the photos or the pat-downs are both scary. And not to mention seriously creepy.

No one ought to be looking at nude photos of kids, not even for security purposes, nor allowing enhanced pat-downs. It's way too similar to child porn and molestation.

I really hope they figure something less intrusive out, before we want to fly again.

What frakking sucks about this for me, personally, is that Emily and I fly a LOT. Being stationed overseas with everyone's first grandchild {and first great-grandchild for many of them}, yeah. we fly A LOT. And by the next time I go home, it's fairly likely I could be pregnant. So. With my toddler and #2 to think of, wtf choice do I have with anything going on here? I'm going to HAVE to fly under these regulations at some point. I'm not going to have a choice. I'm not going to have a choice because thanks to my family's service to this country, I HAVE to fly to go home. There's no good choice, ESPECIALLY for my toddler. It's even more unknown if this level of radiation is safe for her, but I'll be damned if I let some potential pervert pat her down. :( It sucks. Hell maybe I can find a boat to take us home. :(

don't worry about the radiation. The radiation you are exposed to by making a flight and being at high altitude is many times that of the x-ray.

If a cute woman is doing the patdown I'll go for that :)

In re radiation: I know the "threat" of radiation is minimal. That said, the discussions are still happening. Some of the things I've read make a distinction over where the radiation lands, I wouldn't be surprised if different findings emerge. But yes, there's a lot of radiation absorbed being in an airplane.

As to your second comment, I have to say it's inappropriate for this conversation.
