Have you ever seen yourself as the hero for your own story? I don't mean one that you're writing, but a silly little thing in your head? Sometimes when listening to really exciting songs I do that. It sounds silly but it really is fun. I've always wanted to live one of the adventures I've written, because reality can be so dull. I envy my ( Read more... )

I began a new story last week on the way home from our trip. Even though I haven't written a single word of it yet I'm fully immersed in it. I'd been playing with this idea of creating a character who is obsessed with a particular thing. And as I tried to think of a way to work this guy into a plot I became more and more frustrated because he just wouldn't fit. I'd been trying to do something with this guy since 2004 and nothing seemed to be working. The worst part was I had this awesome plot idea-but he just wouldn't fit into it ( ... )

"When you're a writer you don't get to clock out and go home. It's with you wherever you go. We're lucky that way."

I completely agree. Sometimes I can't shut my brain down from it! :) Sabrina and I are looking into Context.

Hmm...I don't think that it is so much Capitalism as it is American culture that has removed imagination. If it was Capitalism then there would be a noticible decline since around 1637 in the nethrlands when Capitallism was formed to today in every Capitalistic society. I think it is more that we took the idea of Industrialization to the breaking point, espcially after the cold war when we became the last superpower. We as a society said that sciences and math were more important than anything else a person can learn. That why there is such a demand for college graduates of those fields and anyone that studies any of the Humanities are left to either get a job just to pay the bills (that continue to increase which means we have to work more and harder to make the money), or keep going with our education and try for a professor position of have the the right number of letters after our name to get a job that will be enjoyable ( ... )

I have a few points to argue with your response, even though I didn't mean for my post to become a debate of what doomed the world. I was stating my opinion, whether it could be rooted in history or not ( ... )

Seems like everyone's talking 'bout routine and the drudgery or life these days, in one way or another. But I, too, dream of adventures while listening to songs, as well as dreaming of music videos, clips of my story if made into a movie and made into a music video, etc. And I make myself the hero of pretty much every story I write. All the ideas I have in my Idea Bucket portray protags who, when I envision them, don't look that far off from yours truly. Handsome protags, for sure, but I know when the fingers hit the keys I'll have to tweak them a bit ( ... )

I don't know, I think even with one bullet wound you'd stick around for a bit longer. ;) The pure adrenaline shock, the power of shooting back or having the ability to do stuff with that out-of-joint arm. It's a challenge. haha, yeah my heroines usually carry my "je ne sais quoi" that gives them their vivacity and tenacity. ^_^
